Motorhome Fridge

Has anyone fitted a new fridge , or more likely had one fitted ? I'm wondering can the door and control panel along the top be retained, or has everything to be scrapped ?

Secondly, can a fridge be serviced to improve it's efficiency ?

Yes, there is a product referred to as heat sink paste available from eBay which you apply behind the fin in the fridge, easy job

Basically you remove the fin and clean off the by now crumbly existing paste and reapply the new.
It made a massive difference on one of my previous vans.
Any questions get back to me

A service may help, clean off any soot, possibly change the burner, element etc.
And yes I have had a complete new fridge/freezer replaced by Anchorpoint. I had a Thetford model but replaced with a Dometic that fitted the same space.

I also have removed, serviced and replaced a couple, of the small 3way under counter fridges.
You would really have to provide more information, what's wrong that you want to replace it, why would you consider keeping the door and control panel.? What is the make, type, model no, what type on van have you got, and a couple of photos if possible.

So basically I should " have it looked at " as they used to say, so that a course of action can be planned. I presume Anchorpoint would also do a diagnosis ?

I've only got a feeling that it isn't as cold as it should be. Also the electrical side doesn't work. I've replied to Strand Camping suggestion of a service to see if a replacement is necessary or not.

You can get a thermometer with the display outside the fridge that shows the fridge temperature.

And yes any motorhome dealership with a service department should be able to check if it’s working properly.

Obviously if the electric is not working it needs looking at. A few simple things to look at yourself , have you the winter vent covers on, are the vents all cobweb up.
Take them off and give them and the space at the back of the fridge a going over with a hoover with a soft head attached. Is it only in the last few days that it seems to not be cold enough,I wouldn't be supprised since the temperature has been very height. For the fridge to work properly the cabinet at the back of the fridge should be between 15° and 25°
I have just checked my one and it's 46.7° so the fridge would struggle to stay cold, that's why some fit extractor fans on the top Vents, if your Concerned about the front of your fridge matching, your cabinets, the front skin comes out of the door.

Ok fridge working on electric. So all good. Just wondering if there's any problem with leaving it on while at home and hooked up ? I mean it's not just designed for occasional use ?

You would be running an empty fridge for nothing and it's best to leave fridge door open when not in use to prevent mildew

Ive read that they are designed for occasional use, but we leave ours on all the time, if the fridge door isn't being opened they use very little power.

And put a couple of flats of beer in to create a mass to cool, no mildew if running either
