M25 options

Hi all. We always use chunnel for summer trip in July but have always gone M25 via Dartford but we are thinking what the other direction via Slough would be like. We always do a night drive anyway through England as we get off the ferry at Holyhead around midnight and drive on down for an early crossing of channel. Does any one with experience of both directions on the M25 think the Slough direction is any better, or is the M25 always a fecking disaster...? Thanks

The UK'S biggest car park. I'd say the M25 is crap no matter how you go around it.

I've spent a lot of hours being parked on it.

When I was in HGV's & I was coming down the M4 or M40 I would usually go south round Surrey direction then m26 M20, Folkestone from the M1 / A1 around to Dartford, then M20 to Folkestone or M2 to Dover. But that was personal preference 😂 & I was getting paid so it didn't matter if I was stuck in traffic 🤪

Ditto Ron, that's the way I've always used. If you're doing in the early hours you should be fine, definitely a sh#t show after 6am.
As an aside, we did make it on Sally Traffic on Radio 2 one afternoon after some tw*t ran a red light at the Kingswood Surrey, M25 junction, and I ran into her. We caused real carnage and delays that day and it was a crap end to a great French trip in the RV when the kids were young.....

It can be a sh1te show either route, having done both.
The northern route is shorter, so why risk adding to your misery.
The night drive which we prefer should be easier.
Enjoy your travels

i have done it both ways and even late at night and still come unstuck , thinks its just pot luck. I hate driving in England and wish i could afford to live in Sussex (Frans Birthplace) or Kent. in fact this trip we came from Manchester on a saturday and we were stopping at Frans cousins at Haywards Heath before a Newhaven ferry so came down the M6/M45/M40 stop at Oxford services, onto the M25 then the usual motorway closed signs at the M23 junction which we were coming off at ,so after a nightmare diversion through all the afternoon shoppers we did eventually arrive 2 hrs later than expected,
