Roaming with 48 is notoriously bad and can't be trusted , excellent ROI coverage though but you could have no data in NI or border counties as well as Europe

They’ve sorted roaming Dave in the past few months.
I left them for that reason quite some time ago as European roaming was terrible.
Users now able to roam on 4G in Europe…….
But the proof will be in the pudding, I’ve ordered a sim and will see how it goes.

Ive been with 48 for a few years. No issues in Ireland, in fact I was getting download speeds of 150Mb/s at home.
Going to Europe was always a faff. With Vodafone/Eir, the phone would automatically go to roaming and connect with a provider. Not so with 48, you had to go into your cellular settings and make non-intuitive changes - always a pain as I would have forgotten how I did it the previous time.
They advertised on their website a few months ago that roaming in Europe would be on 4G - hurrah and to make it easier to start roaming, they had improved things and offered a replacement SIM which I requested. Outcome is download speeds at home have reduced a lot, but still getting an impressive 60MB/s.
There was still faff to get it to go on roaming when we arrived in France a few weeks ago.

Got a second completely new SIM for my wife just before we travelled. Bloody hell, had to change the APN settings to get it to roam in France - luckily I could copy the settings from my own phone. Both SIMs working faultlessly in France

I didn't like their fair usage policy for longer stays. Got hit hard by 1p sim in UK for my tracker. Ended up paying £1 per day.

In France now zero data on 48 , have one of their replacement Sims and it won't accept the APN data settings, got on to their support and after an hour and a half was told to get another SIM when we got home 🤬 ,calls and texts no problems, will be getting a new SIM but from a different provider ,

There's no quality in cheap.
It may cost a few euro but the Vodafone Red package which gives unlimited everything throughout Europe plus excellent customer service is hard to beat

Agree Colin, hard to beat being with a prime network (ones who supply the cell signal, not piggybacking).
I went over to three here when I had roaming issues with 48, thought they’d sorted it by their speil on their website, but as Dave has proved it’s still an issue.

OK for Ireland and that’s about it.

I tried to order a Sim and it wouldn’t let me as it told me I was outside Ireland.

Did you get the 48 SIM Jon and have you tried to use it in NI, that would be the closest area to test if it works

Arrived today Dave.
Running 4G speeds here without a problem.
Have put it in a spare phone and left in the van where I shall test tomorrow while on a job in NI.
48 was always ok in ROI, terrible elsewhere.

Yes, works well in ROI and phone and texts are fine in Europe but roaming ??????????? , No idea what their problem is, although I think they might be getting their Sims from N Korea 😁

Crap.
Faff to get on ‘foreign’ networks.
Great in ROI, fast 4G….. but useless for us roaming clients.

Its probably on here somewhere but I don't see it.
I'm looking for a loaded sim card to put in an ipad that I can use abroad. I used to use an EE 90 day sim with 6Gb on it but that won't work any more. I dont want to pay a monthly contract as I don't need it. I have been teathering from my phone but its handier having the sim in the ipad. Last couple of times abroad I had bought sims from 3 and O2 and was assured it would work but when I got there they didn't. Someone suggested buying a local a sim card in country

I use 3 ‘internet with legs” SIM, available in different GBit. I use 24Gbit cost about £35 on line, valid for two years from first use. You can replace the SIM while abroad and it picks up the new number. I reset data statistics when I change the SIM so have a record of what I use. The T&C say 12GB roaming per month max but I have never had it limit my use.
