Was going to change the fuel filter but the water sensor will not insert into the new one. I’m I doing something wrong or do I just need to get an original replacement.

Take it back to where you got it from with the water in fuel sensor & get them to try it on that one or another one if they both don't work then it will be probably have to be a dealer part
