I’d recommend anyone travelling to Portugal to have a toll tag.
Although that article mentions toll-tags, the one I’d recommended is the “BipNGo” tag. Not only does it do Portugal toll roads it also does Portuguese car parks and also the toll roads in Spain as well as France. Full details are at https://www.bipandgo.com/en/

Hi Jon can it be used for over 3500kg? I looked at their FAQs but it wasn’t covered.

Being left hand drive I have a tag for at home but never felt the need for one on mainland Europe. The number plate recognition system in Portugal is simplicity itself and with more and more tollbooths offering Contactless payment I think, for the occasional use we make of toll roads, a tag isn't worth the hassle.
Also, being 3,850kg we wouldn't be able to avail of the Class 2 rates.

We signed up for a Fulli tag earlier in the year. Works in Spain, Portugal, France and Italy. €1.70 per month charge when used (plus tolls of course). No charge to your account for months when not used. Didn't want to accept AIB debit or Mastercard when setting up, but accepted Revolut. Takes one € out of your account to verify all in order, but credits it back. In France now and it's working a treat. Being charged as class 2. Vehicle weight does not impact.

Just got my Bip n Go, got it as a motorhome, I did go for the right one as over 3.5t, my Crit air gave me class one, the lowest emissions possible, due to running on lpg.
