some are small enough that you cant open camper windows that lift up because you are so close to your neighbour but some are gig enough for an american RV and trailer...and everything in between. With CCP and Airepark and Park4nite you can sometimes get the dimensions now. Ive driven up to 8m in europe (have 7.5m now) and never had an issue getting in or out in any country...

Also some are out of town of course, but some are right in the middle too...mostly close enough to walk and very often on a bus route or cycle lane if they are out of town a bit.

thanks thats good to know.

We have a size input now on our places on Motorhome Parking Locations app, it'll take a while to build up the information though.

Plans are afoot for heading off in October with a one way ticket, hence the question. I've seen a few that are quite huge just outside of towns whilst on holiday by plane.

Size can be anywhere between two or three to up to a couple of hundred spaces.
Some have delineated bays others are a free for all.
Many popular resort areas have two or three areas (a, b &c) b & c brought into use in high season. The services bay is usually in a. the all year area.
Prices range from free to about €12 +/- a euro.
Some only charge between May(ish) and October(ish)
There are over 7,000 in France alone so expect to find 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly' in the mix.

I've never really had a problem on the Aires (8m) although I now tend to go out of season avoiding July/August. If you are in a large MH there's usually somewhere to hang the rear over. I think MHs are tending to get larger on the Continent anyway

That one is still in the thinking process, considering selling for something different and smaller.

At the risk of you not liking my answer the App I use on the continent usually specifies max length and number of pitches, Google maps will then show surrounding area. I do find Park4night will give me some locations but on arrival they are not suitable for my 7.5m.

As others have said some are remote suitable for a small number of vans, some are right in the centre suitable a huge number of vans and pretty much everything in between.

MPL will show length (once we gather the information), it also allows Satellite viewing via google maps in the app. This is the difference between MPL and P4N, MPL will be for motorhome owners, not Berlingo owners ;)

I only use P4N as a last resort as it has let me down too many times. If I do find one on their App I now read all the reviews to see if it still exists and whether it works for my van.

I prefer Campercontact but I think it is because what I am used to. I’ve met others mainly in Spain and Portugal that prefer the alternatives that are pretty similar.

I have 11 different Aire apps on my phone. Some give limited details without payment, a couple I pay for. If you flick through them you can usually find something suitable

I bought a Tomtom Go Camper (world maps ) on offer for £120 in Moulins last year and it has Campercontact and Anwp preloaded ,great bit of kit.

I don't think you can generalize.
It depends on whether it's real "Aire" or just parking (perhaps reserved) with an overnight permit, the space available and whether the pitches are delimited or not.
If far enough from the center they are often large enough to fit an eight-metre motorhome.
If in some small and nearby places, the maximum can be seven meters.

A good example of dimensions acceptable to me is that of the Cobh Aire.
Enough for "normal" sized motorhomes but small for a 10m Morelo.
