Paid a visit to the Lime works in Kilkenny on Sunday. Absolutely packed with motorhomes. I counted 45 parked in the 'works' with a further 6 parked in main carpark. MHs parked very closely together... not my scene but it shows how motorhomes can have a positive impact on the local economy. More towns should follow Kilkenny's example and free up some of the many derelict sites in their local areas.

I haven't been there, yet. It sounds like it's like an unlined French or Spanish Aire in high season.
A good Aire should have clearly marked bays.
Cobh and Dungarvan are examples of best practice.

That's exactly it. Basically a hardcore back garden, with the basic /minimum facilities provided
There are numbered spaces marked on the wall, which are adequate, but when you put some people in the mix nothing works. Still a great deal better than any other city in this country.

I saw that one coming, I walked out of the Aire with Liath behind a guy, who said to another, at pay station, why put money in there when you can park next door, indicating the Aires, too miserable to put a few euro in the meter.

Haven’t been here since last year, spaces now limited to 18 which are marked out on the walls.

If no camping activity is being carried out and a motorhome is simply parked in the same way as any other type of vehicle the six metres rule doesn't apply.
The six metres rule is for caravans, mobile homes and other types of temporary accommodation which is not immediately mobile in the event of a fire breaking out in a nearby unit.
Throughout Europe fire regulations applicable to such accommodation as mentioned above does not apply to motorhome parking areas.

Agree with baguette above.
Otherwise are the Council run and well established aires in Cobh, Dungarvan, Clonmel not in compliance regarding spacing ?
It's unlikely the Limeworks owner has unwittingly invented a sign that quotes regulations that ultimately harms their income.
More likely someone external is lobbying heavily to cancel the success of the aire ??

After seeing the place the last on the last two visits I'm not surprised someone has moved in to try and regulate the parking, also not surprised that the Iron fist has come into play, even if they are wrong.
The last time was on the Springsteen concert, I had a walk around and I was happy, not to have got a reserved place. the time before that , when we returned from a walk in the afternoon, there were 7 vans parked in front of me with max space about 1.5 mtrs, and two so close, someone could have sat in the Hab door and had dinner trough the sliding door of the next van.
Will the signs be ignored, of course and then he will be forced to close.

The norm around Europe

I know, but it's gets a bit of concern when there is two rows in front, with about a 3 Mtr. driveway between the rows, withe an opening in the middle, about 20 vans down to your left, where some Gobshite is going to think, "O" look there is a space.

A good few not keeping to the spacing, but I doubt they are wilfully ignoring the sign, probably used to the continental style of parking.
Because it’s gravel, there’s no markings on the ground.
Saying that they are not on top of each other.

I think 29…

Still better spacing than some of the photos I’ve seen from abroad

and I’ve been in carlingford where I could literally stepped from my van into the neighbours that pulled in beside me 😂
