E 10 petrol and diesel is coming into ROI shortly, it's been in NI for a while , did anyone in NI have any problems with older diesel engines and small petrol engines,ie ride on mowers, chainsaws etc

We’re having problems with the E5, let alone the E10 for aviation use.
Causes vapour lock at altitude plus degrades certain rubber products, particularly fuel floats in bing carburettors.
We’re removing all ethanol now before using it.

We put 250 litres at a time into a conical tank (old industrial beer fermenter) and add water and agitate it for 24 hours and let settle for a further 12 hrs.
The ethanol attaches itself to the water which can be drained off at the bottom of the conical tank.
The remaining fuel is then passed through a water separator and decanted to Gerry cans. You can achieve over 90% removal of the ethanol.
The alternative is to use AVGAS UL91 but it’s roughly €3.00 a litre. It can be used in cars too.
AVGAS 100LL (blue fuel) is not recommended for the Bombardier Rotax engines we use due to the lead content.

For all the fuel these items use it would be better to hedge your bets and use E5 fuel.
Having said that I’ve been using my £79.99 Timberpro Chinese chainsaw all week flat out having forgotten about the E10 issues. Ah well I like to live on the wild side!
I just bought a fresh gallon 2 days ago and will be using it.
Any issues and I’ll report back

A Timberpro Chinese chainsaw for £79.99 is a bit of an oxymoron

I don’t know what that big word means but I do know the saw is as good as any Stihl I’ve ever used and I’ve used quite a few

Had a look just now, would like a light 16” one, not sure if it’s the picco chain on it? They have 2 models , CS380 & the CS5200 the difference being the engine cc and weight obviously.
I Have a stihl 038AV for 30 years and is still perfect but it’s heavy for prolonged use.

On Facebook it's usually followed by a profanity comeback as the moron thinks you've called him a Moron, proving he actually is a moron. Contradicting contradictions with contradictory expression.

It has caused mayhem with my Fathers chainsaws and shimmers etc. I’m concerned about what it could do to my WW2 Jeep. I have seen additives you can add to petrol that is supposed to help protect engines from ethanol. Not sure how effective they are though.
Don't think you can get super (leaded petrol) in the republic any more, you have to buy the additive. So I don't think there will be any four courts selling E5 petrol as well as E10 when the change happens. Sounds like the smuggling over the border business will be booming again.

Just checked Jon and it’s a CS5800, heavy but powerful
That thing would have power (58cc) on a 16” bar.
My stihl is on a 20”…… I’m going to look at the lighter one Brian, on a 16”, even a 14” but the smaller engine.
Thanks for the pics.

Another option, next Sunday Lidl are selling a cordless which would be lightweight for £60. Might be worth a punt if you already had the charger and batteries

Cordless is the way to go, I've most tools moved to battery and invested in DeWalt.
The chainsaw is the next buy, for cutting branches down in the way of the new (large) Motorhome.
