Leisure Technical Service in Lisburn does it, Camper Medic also does it ( I think) but they are not difficult to do yourself as its just like changing a bottle over.

You can contact your man at Cork gas. He sells and fits the kits.https://www.corkgascentre.ie/gas-it-refillable-tanks
I did my own from parts he supplied. Very helpful.

I had an underslung gas-tank supplied and fitted by Stan of Vantastic Camper Conversions near Castlebridge in Wexford which frees up the gas-locker.

Was this expensive and what size tank , info may be of interest to people with 6 kg bottles as they're getting phased out

The tank is a similar size to a spare wheel and is a 50 litre capacity so you can fill 40 litres of gas (80% rule) and it cost me about €800 which is less than some some of the kits offered by Cork Gas. A litre of LPG is €1.10 in the local garage I filled up .

I'd guess with a full tank about 50kg but that is a guess

Good guess Dave.
Tank net weight 29kg.
40ltr gas ÷1.96. 20.4 kg
(The whole thing a little heavier than my spare system.)
So no real saving in weight or gain in gas capacity, compared to two bottles, but great saving in cost. €40 to about €66 for two bottles.
I supposed you could probably get 8 or 10 of wine in the empty gas locker🤔🤣
All in all well worth considering if doing a conversation.

Can anybody let me have details of somebody who can test and/or replace the underslung lpg cylinder or our motorhome. It's been fitted for 12 years and I've recently discovered it was only certified for ten years! I live in Clare but happy to travel. Thanks.

Good luck with finding someone to certify your cylinder, the following is a quote on a UK site where the owner was refused a gas safe certificate by his service engineer.

"All LPG cylinders, bottles , tanks need recertification and all valves replaced @ 10 years old or replacement.
Unfortunately there is no longer any company who can offer recertification so it’s basically replacement.
When you actually start to think about the logistics involved in recertification you soon realise it wouldn’t be financially viable."

I suggest you Contact this Guy, he should be able to advise you, if his company or someone else, do testing of under-slung motorhome Gas cylinders.

From what I read on several U.K. forums, a private Motorhome does not require tank or bottle testing. It has been suggested that hire outfits do. I understand that there is not really a ‘specific’ qualification for gas engineers for testing bottles and tanks although obviously they would be competent at testing appliances and pressure testing the system.

My reading also seems to indicate that firms like Gaslow, Gasit, and Autogas do not offer testing but suggest the replacement with perhaps the potential of part exchange. Probably not economically viable to test or send back to tank manufacturers.

I don’t know what the situation is like on the continent as to wether testing is offered or available or indeed if any certification might be accepted back in the U.K. or Ireland.

All of the points I raise are from posts by motorhomers, so cannot be taken as gospel although the underlying fact is people cannot get tanks and bottles tested.

Davy
