Insuring a VW T6 campervan as your daily driver

Hi All,

I'm in the process of downsizing.
I'm selling my 6-berth motorhome and and my car.
I'm buying a VW T6, converting it, and using it as my daily driver.

My motorhome is insured with Dolmen (Axa) Insurance for E350 a year. My car is insured with Allianz.
Dolmen told me I get this price of E350 because I have a separate car policy (even though its with another company).
Dolmen also told me that if I didn't have a separate car policy, my motorhome insurance would be E856.
So I am assuming it would be something similar for my converted VW T6.

My question is to anyone that knows, or to anyone that is using a campervan as their daily driver,
how much is insurance, and what insurance company are you with.

Thanks is advance.

The figure Dolmen have given you is about right, you could try Stewart's but I doubt there'll be much difference

I only have a MH and a scooter no car I’m with dolmens and the figure quoted is correct, you can get 10% off with an alarm and a further 10% off with a centrally monitored tracker.

Your problem maybe a low roof possibily.

There is another option with I believe the Irish camping club or similar who have lots of hoops to jump through but do insure a daily driver.

If you are self converting, just insure it as the van. Then when fully converted and the SQI is somplete, you can get the quotes from Dolmen etc. I drove my Crafter for a year whilst converting on normal AXA van insurance.

Thanks eirebus!

I contacted Stewarts (now Arachas) and it's the same price for as Dolmen for Campervan cover E349 per year.
But that is for domestic leisure and recreation purposes - not as a daily driver.

Thanks StrandcampingDoonbeg!

Ok, so with those 2 discounts the E856 could reduce by E85.6 x 2, so to E770.40 or 684.80. Good to know.

My conversion will have a pop top, so the low roof - less than 6 feet (1.829metres) - won't be an issue.

I've sent an email to Bill so will see what he comes back with.

Thanks Hymer544!

No, not self converting. Won't be insuring until conversion is complete.
