Sad reading and probably the death of a great spectator sport.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-64591498

Not just these events, everything with public liability insurance. We are organising an event in May at our club and against a brick wall regarding insurance.
We insured a few years ago cica: €1500 for a two day event, now we can’t even get a quote with thousands of euro required spent on reports and risk assessments before they quote us and unofficially told to expect a quote in the 10’s of thousands for insurance. So much so that we must forget about it, and with it the local charities that get in excess of 10K from the event.
Sad state of affairs.

It has been on the cards for a number of years now, the number of races which were dropped due to costs, lack of sponsoship, state of roads etc. When the UGP didnt run it was always going to be a short time before the others would stop as well.

I wonder how many golf events the Causeway council will pay for to make up for the loss of the NW200

Public liability insurance is a big concern for any business/event/organisation. It’s shame as it is preventing and stopping so many things from happening or pricing them out of the market.

I know for me there is only ONE underwriter for PL Insurance in the whole of Ireland, lack of competition = higher prices.

I do wonder what the situation is like in France, Spain and Portugal, is it cheaper? Do the businesses even bother?

Dundrod is a short circuit.
Watching paint dry compared to road racing.

No. I'm sure the reference is for the Ulster GP.

Well I watched Agostini race Hailwood there and there wasn't even paint between them.

Let’s hope so Jason, it’s one sporting spectacle that I would hate to see lost.

It would be better if they got together and lobby the Poli-tic's to have the common law changed, and take on the insurance cartel.

Will they hell. When the Poli-ticks are getting massive brown envelopes for allowing the cartels to operate here?

In reality I do believe that a rescue will materialise this time but long term this sport is in trouble .

I was there when his bike stalled on the grid. After the race had gone past us there was an announcement over the tannoy :
" Mr Agostini has agreed to race "

He came around on his own and I never saw anything before or since quite like it.
And yes, I know they prob are faster now .
