AFAIK the Sky Q box uses a matched special LNB and won't work off the type of LNB used on ordinary Sky/Freesat dishes.
I think the Sky Q box also requires an Internet connection so one might not work at a 'foreign' location.

Would pre recorded films etc on the Q box work, using it as a large memory stick

Why anyone pays the extortionate fees charged by sky etc I never know, it’s far worse than the tv licence
Quite a few years ago my sky was up for renewal and they were doing a 50% discount for new customers.
I asked why new customers were getting this deal but loyal existing ones were not, they were not really interested so I told them to shove it up their ass.
They tried many times to get me back but no chance.
