It was news to me, however these are the regulations required when posting on this Forum. No personal data to be used, you can't even quote someones name it seems, even when they ask for the information to be known, its a crazy world.

Amazes me that Facebook get away with it daily but the small guys get picked on.

But that's how it is:

What a pity that these people that are so easily offended did not just stick to Facebook and leave Forums like this to decent people who like to share info from time to time.

Well that's the rules and we have to stick with them. Our software developer at the time did say it would be the ruination of free speach.

Am I right in thiking that everyone, has to have a user name, that is not their given name, and we can only refer to that user name even if we know them personally.?

No.

Its when you quote someone that's not on the forum.

Reading the quoted article it's only talking recommendations which can be followed or ignored. How will this change the way we operate ? If I post on the forum that my buddy Joe Bloggs said that he was nearly run off the road in Hook Head by a dirty big camper with Venezuelan number plates will I be reprimanded, or will I have to blank out Joe Bloggs, Hook Head and Venezuelan to appease the snowflakes ? The world is gone absolutely nuts and it's worse we're getting.

A person emailed me and asked me to advise motorhome owners about parking in a certain area, "they asked me to advise" - I allegedly posted their message and name.
Post if present at all was deleted years ago.

I was then investigated by GDPR Ireland, who after months of back and forward have decided not to prosecute. But have said they advise the above.

They have suggested that the person whom emailed me can still start their own prosecution.

This happens every single day on social media and not a word about it.

Personally I think it's a load of nonsense, I was asked to pass on the message. But those are the laws and I have posted the above to advise others of same.

If I get any more aggro of the same thing, I'll just shut these forums down. Its really not worth it.

I'll post links to the criteria above when I am next on a PC. We all need to adhere to it.

The world has gone mad.

Madness.

When you register for an account surely this includes permission for your posts to be read by others (I’m sure I read the T&Cs thoroughly as everyone always does 🤣).

There is also the information in the data and privacy section of the forum that seems comprehensive enough.

Or was the issue in that particular case that you posted it (even though they requested it) rather than they posted it themselves?

You’d have to be a particular kind of pedant to enforce some of this legislation, though I am sure the idea behind its intentions is sound.

How they expect anyone to read all this nonsense and remember it. More lawyers making money as you need an expert to advise.

https://gdpr-info.eu/art-6-gdpr/

&

https://gdpr-info.eu/art-7-gdpr/

It would make you/me not bother having a forum tbh. I must consider this nonsense carefully whether to bother continuing this forum.

I showed this thread to the wife who had to teach some aspects of GDPR and she says that the simplest way to avoid any kind of prosecution is to anonymise everything, ie make identifying anyone difficult. This includes asking people in photographs for their permission and if they can't be contacted blank their faces.
A forum like this should carry a disclaimer, simple instructions, and a moderator.

Makes me wonder, with photographs the photographer owns the photo and has full rights to it.

At least that's how it is in the UK.

Here is an example of a system that allows people to hide behind, because they are too lazy, or useless.
We have a bad phone signal, but one day I saw a new mast and new electric lines, going to it, about 500 mtrs from the house, great we may be able to get a new service, there was no name on the mast, so I phoned the ESB, customer service, they told me they couldn't tell me who owned the mast because, GDPR
I have attempted to get an explanation other than complete Bulls**t I'm still waiting.

The simplest way was to climb up the mast, late one Sunday evening and cut a cable, then watch who came to fix it the next morning.

Just playing a bit of Devils advocate here, but GDPR was the EU’s answer to protecting personal privacy and freedoms in the face of big data. Otherwise we’d end up like China, where your face is in the national database and your every movement is monitored.

Dash cams and door cams have always been on a dodgy footing but are overlooked when they help out the emergency services. But don’t be stupid enough to publish any identifying images of someone who was not breaking the law or was not involved in an accident.

You would be foolish to think that your face isn't in a national database, we are filmed/scanned at every opportunity, automated passport machines at airports, security cameras in airports, self-use tills in Tesco etc etc Every time there is an incident it doesnt take the police long to issue cctv of suspects etc.

As for the door cams, there was a recent case where someone was ordered to pay compensation to a neighbour for invasion of privacy because it was filming them. I know mine has a privacy mask which now prevents our neighbours being recorded

That’s not the case in the EU. Not legally anyway. The image taken at passport control is the only held for the purpose of matching with the passport scan, to replace what humans have always been doing. They are not retained for any period longer than GDPR requires and for no other purpose i.e. not for a facial recognition database. CCTV operators would not have the wherewithal to match your image with your persona usually, and are constrained under GDPR too.

Will the UK continue in this ethos?

Didn’t need a photo, they already had one. Go figure.

That was handy. 😉

In fairness though, the RSA cannot add your image to a national database or any facial recognition system. That would be a GDPR data breach and carries big fines.

The photo for the driving licence comes from the one on file which was taken for the Public Services Card a few years ago.
Check and you will see they are both the same.
