Can you refuse to pay the rate they make up?

Tell them you are not happy paying the extortion they want,

you probably have to prove you exported the camper ?

If they got a few doing that they might soon realise that people won't pay it

You have to pay, and can then appeal.

But they have you by the nuts, you have to have started the import process before they tell you how much VRT they will charge, there's no way to know before you start.

Not sure how true this is but I was once told that they use specified dealers who rocket the price so as to discourage people from going down this route and bypassing them.

Right moderator hat on here

Anonymous, calm yer jets, sprinter is not accusing you of anything he is trying to put the whole thing into perspective with what others have experienced over the years. VRT is a contentious tax which I think everyone agrees is just pure robbery

Keep it civil please

So prepare a statement, let us know what it is. We'll all join and support.

So many (not you) express their anger, but are unwilling to take it any further. They expect others to do it for them. Personally, I'm tired of those people.

So let's have it!! We'll support you friend!!

First answer is "No" having imported a M/H myself.
Second answer "No", but if I was running my own business, I would certainly employ more x revenu staff to look after my financials.
My point is, Revenue rules are if you can prove they are incorrect, they will re-evaluate and give a refund.
So having looked at 2016 sales adds in general for vans. That is the basis of my post.
12k =88.88k. If the van was from the UK, then you could have. The £ to €, + Vat +VRT. Is this where the 12k came from?
Details,? the breakdown.

"am i entitled to ask revenue to tell me his base price vrt rates" unless you are in the Legal profession ( which I assume you are not) NO, you are not, Revenue quite rightly will not discuss some on else's business.

EVERBODY CAN EXPRESS THEMSELVES NOT THE CHOSEN FEW

Quite correct. That applies to me
( sprinter) also.
If I set out to offend you I would have said you are a Gob###t, which I did not. I only asket you to give me details, in order to clear up your post, before offering advice.

By way of comparison to what was stated above, not long after I joined MHC I was told by someone who has since went on to betray not only MHC bur also Ally, personally with underhand and deceitful antics which many have been documented on here, something similar, to try and put me off going to meets and joining in with not only the craic but also great information and campaigning which has gone on behind the scenes. Those that know me personally know that I am not really a drinker but I have never had an issue with anyone having a few to enjoy themselves, live and let live, but those who a being disingenuous about others should look closer to home - people in glass houses etc.

This is not only a forum but a big family where we share information, help others, campaign to make things better for everyone, if you have any doubts about being a part of that or get offended by someone asking questions which can possibly provide and answer to something which doesnt appear correct then perhaps you should move on this place has few rules but being nice is the main one

Come to think of it, probably the same guy, he told a few the same story. Carried on being a member of MHC but stabbing us in the back the whole time, until he done the real cowardly dirty thing.

He'd of spent four hours a day on the phone to me if I'd of let him, phoned practically every single day.

Good riddance to the two faced ballix.

I will be going through it now in the next few weeks.
Not sure what the fuss is, yes it’s a rip off and we shouldn’t have to pay it.
But since we do it’s like a Xmas present you have no idea what’s inside until you get it :)

Ye just have to factor in an amount for it and hope for the best.

Mine is going to be a new van so hopefully it’s on the price I’m paying (have the invoice etc) and not what it would be if bought here.

As is often said, in other circumstances, I'm sorry for your future loss, I hate to be the one to tell you, but it will be charged on the sales value here, you will have a good argument because that figure will already include the VRT. And I can't see hoe you could be charged the VRT twice, But unfortunately, the dealer profit, is in there also.
It will be interesting what your outcome will be. Because more people will buy from the EU in future.

It's a first time Registration Tax, not an import tax, it used to be an import tax but that was outlawed by the EU a good number of years ago, so the cute hoors in revenue now call it a Registration Tax.
Registration Tax is payable in many countries but here it is not calculated on the invoice price but on a notional selling price which includes VRT, VAT, Delivery price and dealers profit.
So we're paying taxes on tax already paid and the profits dealers make.
Serious sharp practice, the CAB should investigate the revenue regarding their 'profits from crime' income 😠😠

Thanks all, I reckon it will be a nice surprise all right.

Thanks for the info and a feeling it would be on the valued price here and not what I’m buying it for, nice to have it confirmed.

Still reckon it’s going to work out much cheaper going this route than purchasing here.

Its a pain in the butt, but you are correct you will still have a better deal.
It will also show how much we are being ripped off, by both the dealers and government.

So here's a real-life example of the dysfunctionality and pure unfairness within the VRT system.

Have a look at this thread and see what you get here for €114,950 (asking price).
Or, you could buy this for €108,000 (asking price)

A friend of mine recently imported a 2016 Hymer low profile and was charged VRT based on an assessed Open Market SELLING Price here of €104,900 which equates to €31k more than the actual selling price paid. Go figure.

I would think he has a very good case to look for a review of that valuation.
They can only do a comparison valuation since there is no Hymers on sale here, and you can get a new low profile for that money.
