I’ve noticed this year a large increase in smaller vans being converted, I’m talking about Caddys, berlingos et. Even had a caddy here last night with a pop top.
Would not suit my camping life style, no room to move, you have to hope the weather is nice or your stuck to the front seat or lying on the bed.
Also you really are limited to sites or Aires with a toilet at least.
Still for a single person it is a relatively cheap way to go camping.

Loads of them about, even a few companies have sprung up.

I think the South of England has to be VW camper capital of the world, I've never seen as many T4's, T5"s etc

I just couldn't have a camper with no toilet or shower.

Park anywhere, no worries about height restrictions, plug in cool box for beers and or food. Little gas Bbq and great for weekends but no toilet means a shovel is required for digging a latrine and I’m into that.

Before the latest acquisition I had a Berlingo and got a boot jump made up. Table was very tight for a tall person and the one nights sleep not particularly comfortable. Like small but that was a bit too small for me.

Agree with others about toilet. Absolute necessity where as a shower is a nice to have luxury.

In the early years we had 4 camper type vans without toilets and showers and couldn’t really go back to it. It’s nice to have your own toilet and shower, at least you know it’s going to be clean.

But agreed under normal circumstances a wipe down is nearly as good as.

In Liscannor camping field, about 40 odd years ago, a young French couple went over to the tap in the middle of the of the site, connected to it, a hose with a spray end, then they dropped a tube like a hoolahoop attached to a shower curtain around the tap, she stepped in and himself held it up to her head height while she had a shower, inside it.

Most people in this country tend to use motorhomes in summer and on or near the coast. There's a massive thing called the Atlantic which I believe is great for a wash

It's funny this topic came up, as we were thinking of going smaller. This came about because we were coming back from achill island, and 5 minutes from home, we were in a smash.
Some idiot parked his van at the top of a hill without the handbrake on. Came like a torpedo out of the driveway and put us on a bank. Loads of front end damage and to the passenger side so if a write off, We are thinking of something smaller like a vw. The prices are ridiculous, but, they have flush toilets in most.
Once we get back on the road though is the aim.

Sorry to hear that, hope you both are OK. VW would have to be a Crafter, the smaller ones don't have room, and will only have a portopottie at best,
Even still most if the Courier size factory built are in the mad money bracket, time to have a look at the EU market.

On the original title of the post, the cost of these small vans is madness.
Although I have seen them with built in flush toilets, so who knows, if we don't get ours back, we might go down that road.

We have a vw with porta potti type toilet and strip washes instead of shower. Suits us fine.
The VW makes for easier parking and driving in small lanes...

The build itself, looks good, couldn't be making up the bed, also think you will miss the space, Sprinter or Crafter would be worth a look, but 08 Ivsco 3ltr don't know, I'll make some inquiries, and come back.
