Anyone know if Alko shock absorbers or equivalent brands can be sourced in Ireland ? I need to replace the rear ones on my MH, they are AlKo 283.706 and I'm having trouble sourcing new ones. I have located some in England but at £168. each plus vat plus carriage plus import duty they're working out rather expensive,

Try your local motorfactors Liam,
They should be able to cross reference the part numbers and come up with a Monroe or Febi similar thats more affordable,

The Alko ones are robbery
That's exactly what my mechanic has done but they seem to have problems with the old shock number, (283.706), I can't even find it on the ALKO site. I don't want to buy from England because of the crazy price and the hassle of returning them if there's a problem.

Liam.
if you send by email a photo of the shock, the length open and closed, the bolt size dia.and length. Plus the Axle weights.
To unitrailer.ie.
They I'm sure they can offer a replacement.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'm now sorted. The main problem was too much weight in the MH and the machine couldn't do a proper measurement. After dumping water, which I had forgotten to do, and removing tools, books and other "necessary" stuff I was able to get the weight down enough to ensure a pass. There's still an imbalance but it's within the tolerance range. My mechanic reckons I may need new shocks before next year's DOE test but as he's off to France in his own camper on Tuesday we'll talk about that when he gets back. Panic over, good to go for another twelve months.
Maybe I'm talking through my *** but can you get shock absorbers reconditioned. I need a set for my scooter and if I buy a pair I'll double the price of it

Is your scooter only worth 200quid?
Never Heard of anyone doing that, you used be able to get inserts for the mcpherson struts.
