Complain about the problem but don't make any attempt whatsoever to solve it , there's no campsite in Donegal town and even if there was it would close from September to April 🤬

Just three words for Cllr Tom Connaghan.
Cobh
Dungarvan
Graiguenamanagh

There are many more but the three above will do for a start.

Yeah, in 4 or 5 years when we begin to come out of the imminent recession the same gobshites will be wondering how they can get tourists back into town.

I’ve one word for the idiot that solves their Motorhome problem;

Rosslare.

I see less and less appeal to use a Motorhome in Ireland when gombeenism & cute whore politics like this is prevalent and alive here.

Dear Cllr Conaghan,

We've stopped in Donegal town earlier this year for a couple of hours when passing and found it to be a charming place, somewhere we would like to visit again when we have more time.

We parked by the quay and while there was a distinct lack of any appropriately sized spaces for motorhome tourists, we made sure we were positioned such as not to block any footpaths or vehicular access.

Why not address the actual problem, create a small number of appropriately sized spaces for motorhome tourists and put in appropriate charges and time limits. Look to the motorhome parking area in Cobh and see what you could do for your town.

regards,

Bryan Murphy
Motorhome Tourist

Irish councils seem determined to keep encouraging me to go to europe each summer...I said after a trip down WAW last year, that id never holiday in Ireland in my van again...this helps confirm my thoughts!!....5 weeks in Frace/Spain this summer and no aire or municipal we stayed in cost more than 25 euro for a family of 5..with many less than 10...and they were in many tourist hot spots too. Bord Failte and Minister for Tourism need fecking sacked en mass!

What Cllr Tom Connaghan and most of the rest should understand is that providing for motorhome based tourists requires nothing more than suitable parking and a services bay for the disposal of grey and black water plus a tap to replenish fresh water.
Taking Cobh as an example shows it's a win for local commerce, a win for motorhome based tourists and a win for the local community because the wise councillors for Cobh got the takings from the parking charge (€20k back in 2018) ringfenced for spending on local community projects.

I'm currently parked at an Aire at Pont Neuf, La Rochelle. Admittedly we are parked like sardines and the place holds 171 units but it serves its purpose for visiting La Rochelle Its almost full. So 171 x €12.50 =€ 2137 per day. This council has its head screwed on

Definitely seems to be cases of "not in my back yard" and "get Orf my land"

Narrow minded imbeciles with no foresight, no future and no feckin clue.

Always loved stopping off there but not anymore, probably left €100 down the street any night.
I will never beg for the chance to spend my money.
Hopefully that gobshite councillor will have big ideas to help the local businesses through the coming hard times.

This is the caliber of the man.

Conaghan managed Donegal to the 1982 All-Ireland Under-21 Football ChampionshipHe later took over from Brian McEniff as senior manager when McEniff had led the 1983 Ulster Senior Football Championship campaign to a win.[citation needed]
Over the course of his time as senior manager during the 1980s, Conaghan fell out with numerous players. He dropped Marty Carlin and Charlie Mulgrew from his team for one year after they played for Letterkenny in a Forster Cup final victory at Ravenhill in 1987.[1] Other players with whom he fell out during his time as senior manager included Declan Bonner, Manus Boyle, Matt Gallagher, Barry McGowan and Sylvester Maguire Conaghan's spell as county manager ended with a heavy defeat to Tyrone. McEniff, returning to the senior job for a fourth time in September 1989, restored many of those with whom Conaghan had fallen out to the panel in time for the 1990 Ulster Senior Football Championship, which Donegal won.

Conaghan later managed the Sligo seniors. He was mentioned as a possible successor to P. J. McGowan as Donegal manager in 1997 in a dual role with Anthony Molloy. He withdrew and Declan Bonner became manager.

In later years, Conaghan became involved in politics and sat as an independent on Donegal County Council He first stood for election in 2009 but did not win a seat.He won a seat in 2014 and retained it in 2019. He was elected Cathaoirleach of the Donegal Municipal District on 13 June 2017.

you'll do things my way or not al all

Dear Bryan,

Thank you for your email.

Firstly I must state I have nothing against campervans and welcome all visitors to Donegal Town. My concern is that numerous people have contacted regarding illegal parking at the pier with photographic evidence. Therefore we as a council must address the problem and look to providing better facilities for campervans and pedestrians alike.

I am glad you stopped in Donegal Town its a gem!.

Kind regards,

Cllr Tom Conaghan

Cllr Tom Connaghan says he is addressing complaints about illegal parking. If such illegal parking is in fact taking place is it not an issue to be addressed by An Garda Siochana by way of the Road Traffic Act.

Privately owned or Council owned car park then perhaps not. 🤔

It wouldn't be up to the psni in NI.

If it's an area where vehicles using it are required by law to be taxed and insured it's part of the 'public road' and all Road Traffic Act regulations (including those concerning parking) must be complied with.

Not only is it inconsiderate, it also illegal to park on a footpath. In fact it is illegal to park in any way which interferes with traffic flow or obstructs or endangers other road users to include pedestrians.

From the 1st February 2022 the penalties for motorists who park on footpaths, cycle tracks and bus lanes is increasing. The fixed charge notice is doubling from €40 to €80 for motorists caught parking on footpaths, cycle tracks and bus lanes.1 Feb 2022

Not so in NI if its a private car park.
