Just made phone call to Leisure Technical Solutions. To see if I can book my van in for some work only to be informed that they don't work on vans older than 2010

🤔🤔

Well that's no good to two thirds of Motorhome owners.

They worked on the fridge on my 1998 van a few months ago but they were quite reluctant to do it. I wanted a few other small jobs done but they stuck to the fridge which was the main issue.

Mine's a bit more severe Gavin as I've a pipe leaking under the shower which needs to be removed before it can be repaired. But apart from that refusing to do work on pre 2010 vans is not really a good business plan as it will bring a lot of negative comments towards them.

That'll be fun for them to police. Many vans or motorhomes registered in 2010 were built well before that.

Why fun, they are under no obligation to work on anything, if they are making money on the handy stuff, they can decide on two tone one's next,
It's a pity since they have alway had a good rep, if they are going to pick and choose the work they want to do, with a policy like, I can't see that lasting.

There is a reason Simon has decided that,

I don't know him or have ever had dealings with him but all previous reviews were 100%,

Let Simon have his say as he is or was I'm not sure a sponsor of MHC in the past

I wonder if repairs to older vehicles fall into the too difficult pile? I suspect that getting parts for older vehicles is more of a challenge and perhaps fixing one bit then highlights a problem elsewhere. Vans sitting around the premises taking up space waiting for parts.

Your probably right, repairs and parts, may be the problem, If you phone and want a new Fridge, heater or gas-flow system, fitted, I don't think the first question they will ask is, how old is the Van.

My problem is that they would have to remove the shower tray & replace the pipe underneath which is readily available. Approximately 3-4 days labour. I have got it booked in elsewhere but he's busy on other people's vans & has a winter break booked so I will have to keep going the way I have been doing until next April.

In defence of Leisure Tec Solutions they operate from an industrial unit in a very restricted area.
Probably max parking internal and external for about six motorhomes.
Simon tries to work on the basis that he has parts readily available to service the vehicle in question or they can be got on a very quick cycle.
I have been doing business with Simon for many years and can see that he is not in the position to park multiple vehicles while he searches for parts that may be difficult to find.

My part is readily available, it's a 19mm waste pipe with glued connectors also readily available. It's just a labour intensive job. But that's the same on a modern van. I've nothing against the company but to flat out refuse to work on a van without even looking at it due to the age. Seems bad business practice.

Ron I run a business where I do not take every job that is offered to me due to the fact it would be impossible to facilitate this.
I would hate to be classed as disrespectable because of this, I just see this as a way of life.
I have been in business for nearly 40 years .

I have never said they are a disrespectable business I only stated that the person (not Simon) on the phone dismissed my querie as soon as I explained what I needed done, with a quick rebutt of we don't work on vans older than 2010 even though I explained I was willing to wait for a time when it suited them. They could of said bring it round for us to to do a quick assessment. Then either yes we can or no we can't. When I call a garage they normally say bring it to the garage, it's the same ( yes we can, no we can't ) if no I go somewhere else.

Ok the next issue I see here is that you mention 3-4 days labour. That will be in the region of £1000 .
I doubt that would lead to any praise for them.

Yes I'm willing to pay that as I know the value of my vehicle the person who is going to be doing the work will get the money. I actually have set aside more incase of any unexpected issues. The reason I have to get someone to do it is down to I don't have the time or expertise in this area oily bits or electrical no problem

Not a lot of difference between a 2009 van and 2019.
If the parts aren't available then the product needs replaced with a new model.

With motorhomes still being used that are over thirty years old I find it a strange decision.

But I'm sure I'll be speaking to Simon soon and will ask the reason.
