France in May 2023

Hi all, getting the bug now and getting brave, considering 3/4 weeks in France next year. ( Cornwall soon for nearly 3 weeks ). I know there's plenty of sound advice and suggestions on the forum which I will cover beforehand when doing my prep but a first question I have is is it best just to book a stay after arrival in France and fly by the seat of my pants? I mean will the fact that is is not yet peak season facilitate a flexi schedule or is it best to book a full schedule and stick to that? Thanks in advance

Unless you are going in the French heigh season, or there is somewhere at the seaside, you want to spend a few days, no booking required, The Plan, drive down the ramp without hitting anything, then take note of when you need to drive back up. Oh and call to the wine store to get some samples to taste,( a bottle a day) so you can pre-order, your selections, on the way home. 😊

No booking needed indeed. Check out 'Camping Car Park' app which might be of interest, and don't bank on just the speddos and flip flops...weather in may in France is not reliable, even in southern areas.. Booking ties you down too much, especially if you don't like the feel of the place when you've arrived.

I agree with Sprinter and Hymer. In the few years doing this I have only booked my favourite campsite in Switzerland as it used to get booked up in summer. There are loads of Aires and loads of apps so you shouldn't have a problem finding a place to park.Just drive until you find a place you like, you will know it when you see it. In a weeks time I'm going down the West Coast of France. I know I'll find somewhere

Was there this May. Sites were busy but not full. Stayed until mid June when some site were full at the weekends. If you want to stay in a particular place you should book.

As already said, the best plan is no plan. Sign up for https://www.park4night.com/ and get yourself a copy of all the Aires France https://www.vicarious-shop.com…h-editions. If you're visiting the Wine and Beer Store in Cherbourg there's a very good Chinese buffet beside it, great value for the hungry motorhome owner. There's another one down in the town beside the Carrefour supermarket. Enjoy your trip.

Just to add: On a few occasions I've found what looks like a cracking place on Park4Night, turned up and found a much nicer place half a mile up the road on France Passion. I suppose the moral of this is to use different methods of finding stops and cross reference them.

We have used France Passion on a few occasions. They have been some great spots. They can be very picturesque spots. And we picked up some lovely wine too!
