Motorhome Import from France

Hi all.
I am looking at a motorhome in France.
Does anyone out there have any
advice about the process. I know about the societe civile 1,900 euros to get a French address because of not being domiciled in France and another donation of 500 euros towards the French Government depending on the engine size. The dealer will look after all the above . Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is it a new one or used? Are you buying it in France and leaving it there, or are you importing it back to Ireland.
I imported an 09 in 2020.and never came across either of the two things you mentioned.

No it's a 06 autotrail from a motorhome dealer who is selling it for an English couple who re-registered it in France in 2018. Also vrt section have informed me that I need to have the French log book translated to English by an official translater through the French Embassy. Just wondering if it is worth all the hastle.
I don't know of if this is a new procedure sprinter. Where in France did you buy your van. I will try another dealer and see what the process is.

The translation is typical Irish bull.
Has anyone got copy of the original English logbook?

I can go trough the procedure for you, but one thing I would chech first with them is, if they have a copy of the origional certificate or conformity,

Its a cert that comes with every van from the builders, on it is everything to do with the build spec as it came from the factory, listing all the weights, measurements, engine spec, numbers for chassis,
Different from the grey card, which is the equivalent of our logbook.

Thank you sprinter for clarifying what the conformaty document. I don't remember having one with my previous motorhome.

You could save about 15% on the price here. After shipping and the tax.
Deal with a dealer or agent is best. In France the reg plate follows the vehicle. You can tempt insurance cover to drive home with a copy of the grey card.
Things to look for.
Certificate of Conformity.
Grey Card (Logbook). ( tell them you wi need an English translation)

Control Technic in date ( VNT)
Damp Report.
Damage report.
A video walk around is good.
For the import you have to contact the NCT and make a booking within 7 days. The whole process has to be completed within a calendar month, including your VRT payment.
You need to bring with you.
VRTVPD2 - Vehicle Purchase Details Form, download from VRT and fill out ( The VRTVPD1 form is if someone is presenting the paperwork on your behalf )
Your ID. Copy of your PPS number. Proof of address,( copy of a utility bill, bank statement, etc,) ( two if they are downloaded)
The Conformity cert.
The Grey card
The sales Invoice on dealer headed paper.
The ferry booking.
The chassis number and its location.
The Engine number and its location
( they will expect you to show them where both are) the engine number is not mentioned in any of the information, but they will ask you and won't proceed without it.
Lastly you need to get a CVRT cert in order to get it taxed.

ALL EU Regerstratiuon Certificates (log books) must comply with the standard set of codes set out in Council Directive 1999/37/EC of 29 April 1999 on the registration documents for vehicles.

So, for example, Code F.1 will mean maximum technically permissible laden mass (GVW), Code B will mean the date of first registration, and Code J will mean EU Vehicle Category, etc., etc. on the registration documents for vehicles across the whole of the EU.
The objective of Directive 1999/37/EU is to enable authorities and law enforcement to correctly 'read' the information on a 'foreign' registration document without knowledge of the language in which the document is printed.

Its to prove when you brought it in, and haven't had it here, and have been using it, for a long time on foreign plates, so does the invoice.
