If you were going to spend approx nine months of the year in your van.

What size of van would you like?

Small enough for touring the Continent, big enough to live in, enough storage for your belongings.

What would you go for?

For 2 people.....Some thing like the layout of low profile and garage at rear with the bed above, Similar to the layout of Maurice's Castaway,

For family of 2+2 go as big as you are comfortable driving, Burstner argos 747 would be ticking all the boxes I think,

The one on the right. Although the one on the left has proved more than satisfactory for tours of up to six months.
Remember, if you are away from your home country for more than six consecutive months your place of residence comes into question which can impact things like welfare, tax, and health entitlements/provisions

Mad money for sure I wouldn't be buying a new one ,
Yes I can see the attraction of an A class but for a long term trip a low profile would be more practical,I wouldn't fancy trying to source a windscreen or mirror for an A Class in the middle of no where six months into a trip ,

I would be more interested in what the must have gadgets would be on an extended trip

I was doing it in a 7.4m Crafter conversion (details on here if you search). The van was perfect, custom built for wifey and I, it did everything we wanted.

I hated living in the van, I would have been much happier with a tent strapped to a bicycle. The Crafter is now sold and we've bought a T6 Kombi, bikes in the back and camping in a tent, we're both much happier. I really should update my van life blog.

There moral of this is, what looks appealing on a 2 week holiday can be very different when it comes to living in it 24/7. Those long summer days soon become long winter nights. Spain was cold and wet this year and we had frequent snow, be prepared.
