Recommendations for a nice spot around Wicklow / Wexford

 ·
Posted: 17.07.2022  ·  #1
Hi Gents,
Spent a few days in the glorious sunshine around West Cork this week. Tomorrow I'm going to head somewhere around the Wexford / Wicklow area.

I'm looking for a nice spot, has to be close to the water for a nice swim with the warm weather, close to some nice walks / hikes too. Doesn't have to be a campsite, just anywhere I can park up.

Any recommendations that fit the bill around the Wicklow / Wexford area?
I have the app and was looking at a few spots, just wondering if any one can recommend any nice spots they know from previous experience.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah the app is great, there's lots of options that look nice. Im thinking maybe the carpark up around Glendalough could be good. I think I actually have too much choice so I thought I'd throw it out there and ask people with more experience where their favorite spots are around that area.

Thanks for the recommendations. Can you park a motorhome at Glenmalure Lodge. Could see any info about it on their website.

Are you reading the reviews in the app of each place?

You must certainly not be.

Again, I have the app. I didn't realise you could stay at the places with a beer icon though, I just thought that was showing you where there was a pub to grab a pint so j never clicked into them.

Ahhh!

ALL places on the app are places you can park, except for the LPG ones :)

Yeah, I wish I had of realised that last week, there were one or two of the beer icons in a spot that would have been a perfect stop over along the way. At least I know now.

I'm thinking that campsite in Bannow Bay that Sprinter mentioned and then up to Glenmalure Lodge or Glendalough car park. Maybe onto Roundwood for a night.

I'd give Glendalough a miss at this time of year ,it would be very tight with the van with all the summer traffic

I was thinking to myself, I wonder will the roads be wide enough up that area for the van, but I didn't see any of the reviews say it was an issue.

Do you know ant nice spots close to the water around that general location that you like? Suppose I could just hug the coastline and go to Brittas Bay, but I do like to be around the mountains if possible.

I'm in Bannow Bay now after the recommendation above. Lovely spot, glad I came. Close to the water but also rural. Lovely spot.

Can't pass joes, norman view motorhome park, bagunbaun beach up the road village down the road and hook lighthouse only a short cycle, we stayed in bannow bay it is lovely, but joes is our favourite. Have fun exploring 🙂

I'll try that one out next time. I'm in Glendalough now. Just back from a 3 hr hike in the scorching heat! It was worth it that. Some views. Nice swim in the lake after. The Glendalough Hotel is only €10 over night now too. No need to dine there.

I was considering that spot based on a recommendation above but I wanted to get a bit closer to the start of the walks so I came here to the Glendalough Hotel. Its just a car park, no nice views or anything but it's safe. Close to the lakes and close to restaurants and its cheap, so considering what i was after, it gets a good rating from me.
