This is the type of behavior that will cause motorhomes to be banned here.

Not sure if this is uploaded properly, mh parked beside beach with awning out over footpath, two chairs out, footpath is quite narrow there.

Seen similar on the prom Salthill in Galway last Friday,
could hardly believe my eyes as Gardai were driving past and didn't even flinch

For some people the purchase of a Motorhome will be the biggest expenditure they will make outside of their house purchase.
Then there are plenty who believe that everything else should be provided at someone else’s expense.
No business will spend money if there is no reward, but it is like talking to the deaf.
I have always believed that if something is free and can be used sensibly then that is ok, but do not overload something just because it is free.

Ok so my feeling on the like of this is impound and crush the mororhomes, post the video of it being done, on Facepuke
It would never happen again, you only need to prove the point that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable once.

Now look at the photo, and think of the comment.
Cork County Council chief executive Tim Lucey said there is no “immediate” solution to the problem.
YES THERE IS.
“Motorhomes are absolutely welcome. The issue and particularly with Garretstown and Garrylucas is, where do we get the land to enable us to provide a facility down there..

bulldoze the bank on the other side and provide rear-end parking.
SIMPLE.

Ok Martin who pays for the construction work to develop this land? Once Motorhome parking has been provided there is a responsibility to cover it with insurance ,waste management
would be required.
As the free brigade do not expect to have to pay for anything ,who does pay?

Have no lessons been learned by councils from all of the beach crowding from all manner of traffic in 2020 and 2021 between lockdowns?

There are tourism grants available.
Who paid for Cobh. It has all the facilities.

Cobh cost the local council very little as the 30 bays were provided just by repurposing an existing tarmac car parking area, the provision of the services was done by local council maintenance staff.
The new parking area at Dungarvan, which was a council owned greenfield site was developed with grant aid funding under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme

As regards the 'free brigate'. In France and other countries, it is common for a charge of up to €10 or €12 to be payable to use parking areas (Aires) at popular tourist spots, particularly in the summer high demand months.
In the Biarritz area for example it is forbidden to park overnight anywhere other than in a designated motorhome parking area

I'd expect that bulldozing the bank won't fly for environmental reasons.

The somewhat easy solution I'd see is that the larger car park at the western end of Garrylucas beach could have the walls and height barriers stepped in towards the sea and create a row of spaces suitable for campers, perpendicular to the road, outside the barrier while maintaining the car only space inside the barrier. A rough measurement by google maps walking distance gives this as a 100m length along the road, should be sufficient for about 20 campers side by side with adequate spacing and access to the carpark.

It would need strict enforcement of a maximum stay policy with a no return period.

Your probably right. I don't know where the Photo was taken,If its Garrylucas ,that is kind of my point, there is Two solutions in 12 hours, from a photo and Google maps and the council can't find one with all the people and resources the have. or is it simply that the current crop have no interest.?

We commend the French approach while at the same time we champion the legal right to park where cars can. That's a bit of a tricky one eh?

Not tricky at all. While it is legal to park at motor caravan where it is legal to park a car there's no law against implementing segregated parking based on vehicle size where it's necessary for safety or circulation reasons.

As long as it is based on vehicle size, and for good reason, and not type (camper vs car) , fair enough wouldn't you say?

One main point about France is that the towns and villages provide the necessary parking for motorhomes so no need to cause a problem

Which explains why the French aren't up in arms about being able to park where cars do.
