300 euro to have a van checked out?

Hi, I have been speaking to a couple of motorhome companies re getting a used motorhome checked out. I am told that it is best to take the van in and have a habitation 200 euro and mechanics 100 euro test done. Out of the 12 that one particular dealer did last year 8 people did not purchase! Oh Lord this is getting harder and harder. I suppose I am better to go ahead and pay the money and have it done properly.

Sounds very expensive but at least it will give you peace of mind.

Just remember if you don't go for the vehicle in question it will cost another €300 to check the next one.
Be very sure you plan to buy it if gets the all clear.

Did not purchase that motorhome. Even though we had checked it out ourselves we got a damp meter and there was quite a bit of dampness -so back to our search 🇧🇭 In fairness to the seller I don't think he knew it was this bad. Thankfully had not forked out the cash for a full check. Have learned alot from this experience.

Thats a pity. Good job on checking it thoroughly! Keep the faith!

Very wise indeed. Just shows everyone that by doing a little to helping yourself and asking plenty of questions can save a lot of money which is what you have done, by saving the 300 euro fee and the thought of spending your money on a vehicle that was not going to give you any peace of mind.Very well done MMi1

Thank you everyone for your helpful comments. The secret is, of course, to view the campervan without 4 small children in tow!! Which is what we did the first time.......Anyway we are back into the search again and still hope to make it to France in June.
