Towbar for Burstner Ixeo Time 585

Has anyone fitted a towbar to their Burstner Ixeo Time 585? We currently have a rear mounted cycle carrier but getting the e-bikes up there is heavy work and anyway I'm not keen to have that amount of weight hanging off the rear wall so looking to fit a tow bar and tow ball mounted bike carrier instead. It's a 2013 van and I understand any towbar has to be type approved. I'm looking for a supplier in Munster as we are in west Cork. Grateful for any comments and advice.

Thanks for that suggestion. I spoke to James some time ago and it seemed that the Burstner supplied type approved solution was prohibitively expensive. I was hoping there might be cheaper alternatives but might have to bite the bullet afterall ☹

If one of your main worries is the weigh on the rear wall check what the Burstner recommended maximum is.
If your load is within the recommended max and you have an issue with lifting the bikes to the bike rack consider getting One of These

Going down the tow bar route is horrendously expensive, can compromise ground clearance when negotiating ramps and add considerably to the rear axle load.

If the bikes are a little over the recommended max for the rear wall or the bike rack consider storing the batteries seperately in the mh.

Finally, fitting a non recommended tow bar can invalidate any warranty on the vehicle and also compromise insurance cover in the event of a collision.

Try PF Jones in England, if they have one get someone to fit it for you.

Thanks for this. The weight of the bikes and rack is (just) under the Burstner recommended max rear wall load with the batteries removed so the Fiamma lifting rack may well be a viable solution. I will check to see if it will fit where the current rack is fitted. Points taken in relation to the extra axle weight, reduced ground clearance and insurance implications of using a towbar that isn't type approved
