Route Suggestions?

Our France Switzerland idea/plan is hopefully going to happen.
Not sure how many French trips are left in us (or the van!) so we want to get this one right.
Rather than plan a route and find out too late it wasn't the best, we'd be grateful for suggestions within the timescale:
Three weeks booked mid-May to early June.
Arrive/ depart Cherbourg.
Maybe one week driving to Switzerland, one week there, one week driving back?
Motorways/tolls no problem, diverting for exploring towns/villages/aires.
All thoughts/ideas/suggestions/warnings welcome, especially any extra paperwork we'll need for Switzerland.
Thanks in advance 👍

If you come down the A6 from Paris direction places of interest are Auxerre and Avalon. Geneva and Annecy are worth a look as well. Once in Switzerland ,Manor Farm campsite on the side of the lake at Interlaken is an easy walk into the town. Interlaken can be used as a base to get to other places. There is a ferry that traverses the lake to other towns. The Swiss public transport is quite good with their trains and busses. The Ballenberg museum is close and is an open air museum that charters Switzerland throughout the years.

HI Tony, with the time you have, I would go Cherbourg to Tours A28, the A71 to Clermont Ferrand, Then A89 Lyon. From there you could enter CH via Geneva and follow Lac Leman, or my personal favourite route is to enter CH from Chamonix via Vallorcine. Either way can dander over toward Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald for example. You can buy the vignette online before you goThen meander back up toward Basel and head back home via Strasbourg and maybe take in the Vosges area before taking either A4 or A5 to get back to Cherbourg. Obviously you will know that wild camping is frowned on and aires are very rare in CH, so all Onight stops will need planned in advance. Happy planning!

Great stuff, both replies much appreciated.
Updated map purchased and laid out on the kitchen table (the map, not me) as it's always handy to see the whole journey end to end.
We'll probably stay reasonably close to the fairly direct route, partly to restrict driving time but also to keep an eye on the diesel cost.
More questions to follow as the plan progresses, for example, what's a Vignette?

what's a Vignette?

It's either a dressing for salad or a sticker for using certain roads in Switzerland and costs Chf 40

You'll eat a lot of salad for €40, but not much for €5. But thinking about it , a salad plate, would probably cost the same as the stickers, in both countries.🤔😊
