Have a look at unladen mass,it is probably around 3.350 kg so for payload etc, they plate it too 3.8kg you would need to see where you can get rid of existing fittings to loose weight,in order to still have Payload, do you use the Awning, the front drop down bed. I don't know what the weight of them are but its worth thinking about.
The Autotrail Grande Frontier came on the market with a payload of only 230 kg in the non uprated option.
Seems a bit crazy but obviously considered acceptable.
Reducing your Rapido to 3,500kg should be doable but first you should take it to a weighbridge and check its weight completely empty, that will give you a starting point to calculate the new reduced payload.
If you need to carry more than the new payload allows and you must be at 3,500kg gvw you could consider a trailer.
On a car licence you can tow a trailer up to 750kg without have a towing category E on your licence. That gives a total combined gross weight of 4,250kg

I like the idea of using a trailer for the extra load carry.
Next question is.........
How do I go about getting it changed and the new weight plate?

Reply on Is it possible to reclass a motorhome down to 3.5 tonn?
Uprating and downrating is a shambles here, the RSA haven't a clue when it comes to motorhomes.
Despite all the palarva about form filling and Suitably Qualified Individuals the a tester in a test centre can access the system and change the GVW without any form filling, mine got changed last summer without me asking and was changed back. On both occasions the tester just changed the weight on the RSA's CoVIS file and that change automatically carried through to the National Vehicle and Driver File in Shannon, from which the certificate of registration is printed off.
Hey presto, a new cert with the new weight.
It's crazy but it's true
I do t think the question has been answered as I wanT to do the same. The question being asked is how does one do it? There’s not an issue about payload or anything else just the mechanics of doing it.

Re: Is it possible to reclass a motorhome down to 3.5 tonn?
Just to give a short version of post #8
My mh had two plates with weights
An Alko Kober one and a Rapido one
The Alko one says 3,500kg
The Rapido one says 3,850kg
The Rapido one is the correct one (VRC CoC and previous CVRT)
During last CVRT the tester changed the GVW from the legal 3,850kg to 3,500kg without reference to me (the owner) or any documentation
The change made by the tester to the CoVIS system automatically updated the NVDF (National Vehicle and Driver File) in Shannon to 3,500kg
There seems to be more holes in the system than in a Swiss cheese.
Try explaining that to a, "Gendarmerie nationale" or Guardia Civil,
The bottom line is that the data on the VIN plate fixed to a vehicle by the final stage builder is the only legal data and is confirmed on the Certificate of Conformity issued by the final stage builder.
Only amendments certified by an SQI can be made to the original data.
RSA and Department of Transport documents issued for a vehicle are subject to the the caviat E&OE
The CoC (birth certificate) issued by the final stage manufacturer/builder is the only incontrovertible document and it should be carefully retained by a vehicle owner. If lost, the final stage manufacturer may issue a copy, usually for a fee.
