10 daftest things I’ve seen on a campsite

All campsites not just mine.

1. Emptying the toilet cassette in the drive over drain.
2. Taking a load of clothes into the shower to wash them and drying them individually with the hand dryer.
3. Driving off with the ehu still connected (note seen this several times, it’s an easy mistake.)
4. Reversing over your own child’s bicycle when leaving the pitch.
5. Filling up the water tank with a hose through the window not realising there’s an external filler cap.
6. Looking for a gas leak in the gas locker with a lighter.
7. Turning up with a borrowed tent without the required tent poles.
8. Turning up without any spare clothes, left at home in the hallway.
9. Festival tents for a weekend’s camping on the west coast of Ireland.
10. Having a campfire so close to the MH it deformed part of the bodywork.

What’s the daftest thing you have done or seen?

Having to take about 5 gallon of diesel from fresh water tank !

Guy bailing out full toilet bowl with a mug because he didn’t know about the cassette. (Where the hell did they think it went !)

Folk wondering why the 240v sockets won’t work without EHU

I really like your #6….. unorthodox approach but no doubt they’d find the issue :'(

I can believe your #1… witnessed it a few times

And your #3…… you wouldn’t catch me doing that !……. Now would you !….. LOL.. not once but twice.

Washing dishes with hose used for cleaning cassette's

This so common place on some continental sites I forgot to mention it.

Bog snorkelling for the cassette lid in a septic container

I know this will be controversial, towing a car behind a motorhome to a caravan site to be able to explore…buy a caravan

I have seen a huge increase in this over the last few years.

I’ve seen someone emptying a cassette into the drain on the side of the road on Trinity street in Wexford town ☹

Done the EHU lead a couple of times. Luckily minimal damage, always walk around the van before driving off, even (especially) at home.

My favourite:
A borrowed motorhome used for an overnight, and they didn’t realise there was no cassette in 🤮🤢

Guilty to driving off with EHU still plugged in. Twice, at home. On my first trip in France I saw a German plugged into EHU and another lead from a more distant socket coming in the window. This could be a dangerous situation with a possible 440V present in the MH. In Spain I saw a family using a 5l water bottle to fill their tank from the tap for flushing cassettes o.O Mind you, the family concerned deserved every germ and virus that was present on that tap.

The best (or worst, depending on how you look at it) was at a campsite in Germany. An English woman (going off the reg) was washing her clothes in the campsite laundry room. It had plenty of professional washing machines, sinks, irons, etc.

Anyway, back to the washer woman. I was waiting for the dryer to finish (dried clothes in about 20 min). She took a load out of a washing machine. They were placed in a sink and rinsed again. That was the first thing to grab my attention. Why would you re-wash clothes by hand that had been machine washed?

The fun started. A large towel was spread on the floor of the laundry. Some of the rewashed clothes were then spread on the towel. The towel was then rolled up tightly. The washer woman then remover her shoes and socks and proceeded to stand and jump on the rolled towel (containing the clothes).

This show was far too good to miss so I spend AGES folding my clothes as I was finished and didn't want to miss what was next. The Frenchman also doing some washing was watching with interest and we were exchanging looks.

The towel was unrolled. The clothes removed from the towel and rerolled into themselves and placed on the floor (yes, after washing, out on the floor). The next load went into the towel and the process was repeated.

The show finished when the pile of rolled clothes was placed in a basket, the wet towel placed on top and carrying her shoes/socks, the washer woman departed.

The laugh of it all, the dryer cost €3. All that faff, labour and dancing to save €3, not to mind trying to dry the clothes in a van.

Some of the more "routine" escapades include driving over the EHU plug, hitting the toilet block when trying to maneuver, etc. I've never witnessed anything daft with the toilet/cassette, besides someone emptying it down the grey water drain.

How about cooking fresh Mackerel on a BBQ in the van and then eating it under the awning at the picnic table. Because it was a bit windy.

We were boarding for France at Rosslare, just before we reached the ramp we looked over to the right as another ferry was pulling away. There was a foreign camper parked at a strange angle, the driver was out of the van absolutely incandescent with rage, jumping up and down and roaring after the just-departed ferry.
All we could assume was that he'd been in our queue by mistake and missed his own ferry home?
There but for the grace etc .....😂
