My 1991 Kon tiki swift doesn't have a regulator on the gas hose, do these run on butane or propane ? or does it make any difference ? TIA.

Propane every time. Butane doesn’t vaporise below +2 C. Propane will work to around -30c or thereabouts

Propane works best in a motorhome IMO

Being a 1991 mh built by a UK caravan manufacturer it may well have been fitted with appliances set up for butane, which is/was the norm for caravans.
Before plumbing up for propane I'd chech the specification of the appliances.

Combustion of any kind without sufficient oxygen can produce carbon monoxide, this is why ventilation is critical in the vicinity of any gas or oil appliance, open fire or stove.

I have one and have tested it with a carbon Monoxide Alarm, nothing, even tested it with two alarms, nothing. There are videos online testing the scenario. They apparently have a low oxygen cut off.

I know a few in Motorhomes started using the wee Aldi/Lidl ones, they are all happy enough, I wouldn't be so sure. Which brings us right back to the same argument, didn't we all have Super Ser's at one time. I wouldn't leave it on and go to bed thats for sure.

Unless it states on the unit/box or instructions that it is fitted with one of these.
Oxygen depletion sensors (ODS)
Simply do not use it indoors without ventilation or better still don't buy or use one at all.

The only reason anyone ever had a Super Ser was because they lived in a house with lots of draughts which kind of sorted the ventilation side of things
