Hi All

Myself and my wife are off to France and beyond for 8 months at the end of January. At present we have been using 6kg and 11kg propane calor gas bottles in our motorhome in the uk. Are there any adapters out there that we can fit to our uk pigtails for use with french bottles etc. Ive read a lot of info but seem to be getting no clear options...........any advice would be greatly appreciated.

you could get an adaptor kit and refill your bottles with lpg at filling stations , Remember to ONLY fill bottles 80% 6kg hold 12 litres of propane and the 11kg holds 22litres of propane, so only 80% of those values.
Filling at stations only costs about half of changing bottles every time
adaptor kit and euro connectors

I wouldn't try refilling - it's just too dangerous unless you have experience at it. There are lots of Gas Service Centres about such as Hamiltons in Balloo Industrial Estate in Bangor. I think I'd drop in and ask their advice about adaptors. I'm sure most of them have probably had that exact question from caravanners or other MH'ers at some time.

Bobby, can I suggest you either rent French cylinders for the duration of your trip or get a system fitted which allows you to fill officially.

Filling cylinders in France is illegal unless you gave an external filler on your van. There have been reports of people with installed systems being refused at some filling stations. A system such as Gaslow supply certificates as proof of an official installation.

Filling your own here is also illegal.

This is interesting Bobby. Can you please confirm that this is a special adapter which allows you to fill bottles which have gas in them? Or. Do you need to empty your cylinder before filling with this adapter ? I have been reading up on this as I am going to France this summer and will probably need to fill up. I thought there were only specialist fitted systems which allowed this.
