Timing belt replacement

Hi folks , I’m thinking of replacing the timing belt in my 2004 Ducato 2.8 based MH, even though it only done about 16000km since it was last changed 5 years ago, I understand its recommended to have them changed after 5years regardless of the low mileage. Anybody know what the average Cost might be in these inflationary times ?..? Thanks in anticipation , SJF.

If the vehicle is a coach built with the standard FIAT cab there is a predictable fixed price. If it's an A-Class the fixed price doesn't apply due to the awkwardness of the job.

A class in Donaghys late last year. ,€ 550 , coach-built should be cheaper ,less time involved , get it done for peace of mind

It’s recommended by some that you should get the water pump replaced at the same time.

AFAIK, that only applies to pre 2002 engine where to get at the water pump the whole labour of doing the timing belt was involved.
I believe on the later engine replacing the water pump does not involve removal of the timing belt etc. and is a straightforward job in its own right if the pump becomes faulty.
My 2005 is now on its third replacement belt but still has the original water pump after 142,875 km.

I got the timing belt replaced recently on our 2016 Rapido, our mechanic, a former Fiat employee, advised me to replace the water pump. It wasn’t much dearer to have the pump replaced at the same time. I thought it was worth it for peace of mind.

If a water pump is driven via the timing belt it’s a no brainier not to replace it at the same time.
If the water pump is driven via the aux belt then it isn’t an issue, the fact being if a water pump that’s driven with the cam belt fails it potentially can wreck an engine.
