But would a local company allow you to take it to mainland Europe. I know a number of dealers in Germany do hire

Yes finding one that will allow me to go to France may be an issue
I do have lots of motorhome experience having owned 6 in the las t 20 years
May just buy another but this was to see if the parents would like the experience
Don’t mind paying a decent rate for rental of a luxurious motorhome

Probably cheaper to fly to France and rent locally,you'd get LHD too

Do you want to see if your parents like the experience of a being in a MH or being in France or both? I can see flying 4 people to France with all associated gear and then picking up a MH could be a challenge yet families from Germany, France, Holland do it in Ireland.
If you just want to see if your parents like being in a MH perhaps the safe option is to hire here and if they don’t like it then it easy for them to get home or stay nearby in a B&B etc.
Several really good companies here, over all the company that seems to supply MHs which do not have many issues I would say Mc rent from cara motorhomes.
