I have a friend self building a camper. He is thinking about buying this. I have offered 2 x 110 amp batteries but he thinks this will do. He intends to run only lights and maybe a fridge. I dont understand the spec of this. Any ideas

I have one Christmas present so haven’t had a chance to use it in anger.
Charges really quickly though, has built in mppt controller so can plug solar directly into it xt60 connector.
Not sure about running a fridge from it, but you can buy an extra battery for them so he could add it on later if needed.
Mine was €369 inc VAT from here:

It says it is 288Whr and using W=A.V then 288Whr/12V=24Ahr. I think a standard compressor fridge would use 40AHr over a 24hour period. You can run Lithium down a lot futher than leadacid but that is still nowhere near what you would need for a fridge. To be honest 24AHr for a few lights and phone charge over 2 to 3 days would be as much as you could expect. If you were to use the 600W inverter then you're talking 10s of minutes, not hours, if running at full pelt.

A handy device to have but not the main one I would think

Its mostly double Dutch to me but if I give him the 2 x110 amp batteries how could he charge them with the van alternator. He would probably be happy enough charging them with a charger when on electric. He only intends to use as a day van at the minute with the intention of improving it as he gets the money. Starting with the batteries where does he go next and how.

Possibly with a battery to battery charge system

Tommy,
The 2 leisure batteries can be easily fitted and easily connected to a split charge system or via B2B….. split charge being the cheaper option.
If it helps I can do a simple split charge system that can also double up to power the fridge while driving and with a crossover relay so he can run it on battery when stopped…… at least that way he’s not depending on battery to keep fridge cool while driving, also a simple EHU charging solution is very easily done. It will be much cheaper and have more storage than the option first proposed.

The simple way to connect is using a dash switch and a 200ah relay from the starter battery to the service batt using heavy duty battery cable, one advantage is you can connect all the batts up to start if the engine one is low, downside is don't forget to disconnect with the switch when camping or you will run the starter batt down.
