RPM

When I'm driving on the motorway, I generally do about 60 to 65mph. The van seem happy enough at this speed and is not working too hard. The rev counter is showing around 2500. If I go up to 70 or over it goes up to 3000rpm and beyond and the engine is working very hard at this rate.
Would anyone know, is it bad for the engine to keep it at that level of revs for a prolonged period? Ignoring the fact that it is almost certainly a one van environmental and financial disaster zone from a diesel usage point of view!!!

Van is a 2.8jtd ducato
Also is anyone elses ducato at that rate of revs for that speed?

I should say I'm not in a hurry or anything, just wondering.

Your rev's seem correct.

I have a 2.8JTD, I sit at 2000 revs which is around 56 MPH. I find that the most economical. I can't remember at what revs the rev counter goes into the red without going out and looking, but as long as you are not near the red or in it, you should have nothing to worry about, assuming you have good oil :-)

Hiya Ally
My van has no red indicator on the rev counter, same colour all the way up.
A friend of mine who has a Renault camper,3litre, can do 70 -75mph on the motorways without the van working too hard.
Fiat seems to be very lowly geared. Plenty of power in though.

Finbarr,

I doubt you will do any harm, diesels are well known for not being revvy engines and should cruise along quite happily at 80.

I must look at my rev counter see if there is a red limit, I agree with you, loads of power in those engines and very smooth.
