I have already entered this competition but after a few bad experiences this year with the sat nav switching off just when you need it the most I had decided to look for another one. I have 2 Garmin ones and they both do the same thing, just switch off for no reason and never show a full battery. I changed both batteries before we went away and both still doing the same thing. I'm looking for one that I can put in height, weight etc but am also looking one that has the environmental zones. This year I had the sat nav going plus my phone with the green zones to supplement it. Germany is full of green zones especially around Essen and surrounding areas. I am aware that some Garmin sat navs have the Green Zones in the mapping but I have contacted Garmin to get a definitive answer. They just say if its in the sat nav it can be upgraded. I have Sygic on my phone which is quite good but would prefer it on a Sat nav. I won't be buying straight away but would be interested what people have or how they have got around it.
I have a Garmit Nuvi 2000 (?) which has recently developed strange telepathic powers. It now has the ability to detect when I reach a confusing junction, particularly before 'no-turning-back' motorway slip-roads. It will then freeze, and stay frozen until I switch of/on.
I've arranged an exorcism, hopefully that will sort the problem?

I love it, Finally someone, in the Satnave coding business, has had a sense of humor.

I just use google maps, and check route with a real paper map.
Do similar ourselves Daffy, the night before a move the map is laid out on the table and towns at short intervals noted down.
The old map is still very handy.
Sometimes the old ways are the best, Norman. I stopped using sat nav on a trip to Donegal a few years ago…. She was really taking the piss…. So I gave her early retirement in the bin, somewhere on the inishowen peninsula 🤪
My default is to use a paper map and the night before, write out some basic tulip style instructions and diagrams. "North on the M8 to junction 11 take N52 sign posted Tullamore".
I have to write them out so that I can remember them. I may check the instructions once or twice. I tend to use Michelin Maps as they generally have junction numbers.
I use Google StreetView to check the junctions to see what's on the signposts so that my route instructions are clearer! That's the only thing I use Google Maps for in the Camper.
Garmin Sat Navs (including their Camper satnavs that have the vehicle size inputted) I've found tend to decide on a route and if you don't follow that route, then really do try to get you back on that route, even taking you down very narrow roads. Also, my one has started to randomly shut down, usually at the worst time.
Satnavs are handy when you are close to your destination or in towns alright. That's generally what I use satnavs for.
I did learn NEVER use a car satnav in a camper. Use a dedicated Camper or Truck satnav only......
Does anyone have experience of Garmin Camper 780 MT-S.....? I'm thinking of buying this one but reviews here in SatNav in general are not encouraging!
Or is the Garmin Decl Truck more reliable?
Thanks
