I don't understand the comment about access to toilets, do not motor caravans have their own onboard toilets, are they not supposed to be self sufficient or am I missing something. Was 'anonymous' touring in a delivery van with a mattress.

What,s wrong with Public toilets being closed at 9pm ?. It,s nearly dark by then anyway, and if left open they will be littered with syringe's and all other type of detritus left behind by the dregs of current society. Much easier to close than clean.

Wasn't there a recent thread asking owners if they used their onboard facilities? Maybe anonymous has onboard facilities but prefers to keep then as ornamental details

We have used Cobh many times (although not been there for a while now) and i didnt know there were toilets there. Is that a new thing??

There is a metal tempory looking loo just beside the spot where the Casette empty is,

I notice recent reviews on the app mention waste bins available.......hope they are not referring to the bins along the walkway as they are not ment for that job that im aware of....can anybody update further on that?

There was a single toilet installed when I was there earlier this year. I was told that it was to facilitate day campers and the playground. Have no idea if any of that is true

Was there Friday and Saturday, toilet is mainly used by alot of daytrippers and playground users, no bins only ones along walkway which we did notice a foreign camper emptying black bin bag each day, 😣 youghal also installed portable loos along the promenade this summer, I think alot of it was in response to people holidaying at home and having no facilities provided. When we left on Sunday car parked on the greywaste drain which is clearly marked, we paid for the 2 nights as we think it is a great service, but plenty with no tickets, why is there no warden checking tickets.

We had to pull the nose of the van right up to the passenger door of the car so the pipe would have some chance of going into the drain and not all over the road, we think he was staring at us from the park 😂 so hubby made a point of cutting it very close to his lovely shiny golf when pulling away, make his bum squeak a little bit 🙉

Resurfacing taking place on the Cobh side of the Aires, from number 26 parking spot through the barriers all the way to the end of the car park, the pay machine is disabled again, quiet here today, relaxed walk up town...

One portaloo near paystation very clean, perfect as there is the kids playground and the kayaks near it, I would have been happy with that when mine were little and looking for loos.

While they are thinking of enforceing the rules, they should sort out the sun loungers, table, chairs and dinner party's. The open space between vans is ment to be just that, "Open" .

I like Cobh but find the spaces a bit short for our van, there's no room to overhang. I'm always worried ill get a ticket for that.

There is one spot 3/4 way down that i can let the tail in over the flower bed, if that spot it taken im out over the line a bit,
i wouldnt be worried about a ticket (its easy pay the ticket) what worries me is some lug clipping the van passing during the night


Great to see Cobh leading the way with the 48hr rule,

Wrong end of the stick.
The idiots are doing us a favour, we will have a better chance of getting a space for a night or two under the new byelaws.
Parking Areas like Cobh are primarily intended for short-term passing visitors, if a person wants to park up for longer go to a place officially providing such a facility.

I don't think so. I know maximising revenue is spoken about in the article, but the proposed change should only result in the same income from a more frequently changing clientele.
However, that could result in a bigger spend in the local economy, which is what the whole idea of attracting motorhome based tourism is all about.
The better the economic benefits the better the chances of getting motorhome parking provided. I call that a win win for both sides.

Greed on which side.?
Cobh provided an excellent facility to make money for their town at a reasonable rate, that's not greed, that's good tourist business.
Motorhome's using the pitches one or two nights will use the town restaurants and pubs, Motorhomers hogging the facility will not use them at the same ratio if at all, they are the greedy ones, preventing others from getting a pitch.
I have heard of people dropping their vans down and going home, in order to have a Sunday sitting in the sun with friends/family, who come visit.

I have been around a few corners in my time and the setup that I favoured most was the one where you took a ticket at the entrance barrier and paid before you left.
On paying you had 15mins to exit the barrier.
Give Motorhomers an inch and they will take a mile.

I've used a few in France where you put your money/card in and pay for 24 or 48hours it gives you a code, you then come and go as you please, but if you haven't left before your time is up, you have to buy another 24hours.
I'm told that the system will only sell the same amount of tickets as pitches every 24 hours.

I've seen tariffs in France where the price more than doubles after 48 hours, you pre authorise your card on the way in and pay whatever to get out. No long stayers there you bet.

That would probably be correct as new faces and new Motorhomers would be up the town spending money.
Someone sitting there for many days would probably be existing inside their own vehicle and not out and about every day and evening.
This has to be about the area seeing the benefits of having us there.
