Well folks this was posted on the other forum,so for those that did not follow that then here is some info.
Causeway Coast and Glens council have eventually seen the wisdom of their ways.
They have opened a new Aires on the coast road between Portrush and Portstewart, you drive in and then go to Carrick dhu caravan site and get your parking ticket.
There has been good reviews and also bad ones so be aware of parking on the front row next to road.

I thought it was just £12.00 per day, you can park for less, good idea I suppose.

Unless they have changed the pricing structure in the last couple of weeks it was a min of £3 for up to 6 hours and 50p per hour thereafter with a max of 72 hours

That carpark in east strand is where i always maintained the Aires should have been, so maybe better late than never.

I did wonder what the owner of the new build (Million pound house) in the corner of the Aire was thinking.

That is a much better location for an Aire - better than the existing one in Portrush and it already has ticket machines and attendants in the area and as it is on tarmac it will stop people putting out awnings and the like which I noticed at the grass based one.

Thinking about going down at the weekend Billy….
Is that entrance just up from the filling station (Spar/Maxol) and right opposite the ‘Dolphin Cafe/takeaway’ that has access to the park?

The entrance is opposite the chapel and is well marked with a large sign, the aire is marked out in rows and parking is 6m apart.Tickets can be obtained from the ticket machine beside the aire/bus stop/public toilets, both aires were well supported on saturday with 30 + in the new aire .

I called by this evening. Looks like a great spot very close to the beach and with a council depot right beside it they can keep a close eye on it. I would prefer that spot to the existing tarmac one. I would use it to visit the town or the beach or town even if not staying over. Only about 7 or so vans in it tonight (Sunday) and a couple out at Ramore car park.

If that’s a permanent Aire, then it would be some spot, room for about 50 vans , big spaces in between, close to the town not too close to houses, if everyone is responsible and quiet and gives a s@@t it would be brill,in my opinion

Give them a chance,at least they are trying.
Nobody has been more negative towards this Council than myself but maybe when they see the rewards then they will push towards other initiatives.

i think its moving back up to the original new overflow aire in 28 days when temporary planning runs out, so its only there for another three weeks ,some guy told me .There was about45 vans in on saturday night, 7 in the aire at bus station 18 at ramore car park and about 5 or 6 around the town parked up ,it was busy

im telling you now, its in a great spot, you dont even have to go into the town to get in, and your driving back out and past the golf course in about 1 minute ,for 12 quid , walk it to the east strand in about 1 minute, well impressed

Its a rich town that can turn away nearly a £1000 a day.

What was wrong with the old carpark at the toilets sea front at the sports fields, parking round the seafront edge would have been handy and on tarmac.

On passing the temporary Aires in Portrush today there were workmen rounding up all the barriers to be loaded and taken away, there were still Motorhomes parked from the weekend but they seemed to be just working around them.
I am nearly sure the sign at the entrance had gone, does this mean that it is now being closed ?
Was anyone still there in their Motorhome today that can give us a heads up?

looks like the overflow aire is not opening up again, the warden says it was always just for july and august for extra space for motorhomes and once september comes it was closing ,I told him it was a massive success and a brilliant spot, and to pass the message on to the powers at be to keep it on in future years ,
