Toll free route

Hi Seamus, I used this route last year, Cherbourge, Evreux, Dreux,Chartres, Chateauroux, Toulouse, Carcassone. This a toll free route up the centre of France and one were you will see a bit of France instead of just motorway. From Carcassone you might be better going direct via. toll roads which, is a relatively short drive to Roses. I stayed in a camp site in Roses called "Salata" at E30 a night in early June which I thought was dear enough, you are going in July which might be dearer again. The site was in easy reach of the town centre. I only stayed for two nights as I was heading for "Aquarius" camp site in St Pere Pescadore some 15 to 20 mls past Roses. As regards overnight stops you cant go wrong there are so many, although the later you go in July the more congested the sites could be, I have only travelled in periods outside July/August. Aires might be a good option for the overnighting part of your hols. Incidently Carcassonne is a beautiful walled city which is well worth a visit, you can stay in the aire which is adjacent to the old part of the city, this is a very basic aire but safe, or you can stay in the "Cite" camp site which has lovely view of the old city which is lite up at night. You can get a bus from the front of thr camp site for a couple of euros, journey takes 5 mins. or you can walk if you are a bit of a mountain goat, very hilly.
Hope this helps,
Bob.

Hi seamus, welcome to the site. As for answering your query about travelling down to roses, I have made the journey a number of times to tarragona but only once with the motorhome, we did that this past summer through Calais and overnighted near chambord and narbonne before getting to tarragona. The route ramorehead listed is a good one for motorhoming as we have done it as we'll although mainly motorways with the car and trailer. There are not as many aires along the way in Spain compared to France, but you aren't going too far south to have to worry about it.

Hi All.
Thanks for the prompt replies, the route down through France looks nice. We have used the Aires in France before and find them ideal for staying on en-route to and back from our hols. Might have to re-think Roses as site prices for mid July and early August are very expensive. Again thanks for your input
