Front sag

I was walking beside the van today and noticed the driver side seemed to be sitting lower than the passenger side so I measured the distance from the top of the wheel arch and the ground and there was a 1 inch difference, I've checked the shocks for a leak and it's clean, van drives and brakes OK and the tyres are worn evenly and of course its due a test in the next couple of weeks, anyone any ideas

We had a similar issue last year. Needed the front top mounts replacing.

Check if the passenger rear wheel is on a hight. The test is up in ours for the last couple weeks, There is a three months extension at the moment. Dave.

Have got my 3 months Pat, I've had the van parked in different places and still the same 1 inch difference

@Galldar it's an A class van so I can't see the top of suspension but the thought did cross my mind

Can’t see them in the Ducato either, you have to access them from behind the dash apparently, making replacing them a bit more difficult.

I had noticed a rattle coming from the driver suspension too though.

If you have a rattle I’d suggest you have a broken spring

Other than the 1 inch sag everything seems OK, no noise, no leaks and no tyre wear

You won;t be able to tell anything from looking at the top of the stut mount in a Ducato unless you jack it up and with one person rocking the wheel/shock you might me able to notice play in the top mount, the bolt through the shock, or any other part of it. There might be a coil broken off the spring, you'd be able to compare sides very easily with both wheels off. I don't think a failed shock would cause 1" of a sag on it's own.

Is everything else in order? Control arm, roll bar, etc?

How long have you had the 'van. There is the possibility a previous owner got work done and spring was replaced with the wrong version. The originals might have been the special heavier springs for motorhomes and one was replaced by a regular van spring.

Been advised to send it for the test and they have the equipment to find what's wrong and then get it fixed

Feckin spellcheck. I typed van (as we often say when referring to campervan or caravan) and spellcheck changed it to lorry, I know you don't have a lorry ;-)

Looks like you were right for once Martin, the van passed the cvrt yesterday and the sag is gone, no idea why but I'm a very happy camper 😀
