I turned the big seven-oh last July, and since then I've lived in constant expectation of some major life-changing revelation.
But to be honest, nothing changed. I didn't really feel any different, life went on much the same as when I was in my sixties.
I started to relax and carry on as before, relieved that it seemed age was just a number after all.
Until yesterday, when shopping with my present wife in Lidl. I spotted a hose spray-nozzle attachment on sale, so put one in our trolley. Ours is leaking, so it was a good time to replace it.
As soon as we got home, I left herself to unpack the bags and headed out back to change the nozzle.
That's when it happened! I suddenly realised that I was actually excited about the new hose attachment... leaving my wife to struggle with the heavy bag of spuds and almost rushing out to try the variable spray settings.
Now I understand. This is what being in your seventies means.
