I don’t understand the last paragraph? Surely having something very basic without many of the facilities of a campsite would compete less at the private sector? Don’t need EHU and could even do without a lot of he other facilities if it meant just getting a parking space either day or night. Even if you stay at a campsite often you can’t visit the local town easily as there is nowhere to actually park for a few hours. Unless you have a moped/bike/bus route nearby.

“These facilities are not available in our public carparks and it is not appropriate to designate parking bays for overnight use by motorhomes without having these facilities in place as to do so would compromise the viability of current and future privately run enterprise”

It appears from the following quote in the article the Council said the provision of facilities to accommodate motorhomes are typically met by the private sector and the Council is supportive of appropriate planning applications of this type. that the Kerry County Council seems afraid to stand up to lobbying from members of The Irish Caravanning and Camping Council, unlike their counterparts in Waterford and Cork. Or else, they are just pure ignorant about just what motorhome parking areas are all about.

They certainly do not appear to acknowledge any possible role councils might play in the provision of municipal services for motorhoming. That is the missing link.

I don’t know about Kerry but we have lobbied our local Councillor saying there is a need for a proper Aire in Kilkee we have said this a few times and re said it again in an a message to him less than 3 days ago. Campsites an Aires can and should co exist. I’m 10km from Kilkee but honestly believe that an Aire will not harm my business but enhance it.

I’m more than happy to be quoted in any future lobbying.

I always thought 'the missing link' was a term for a transitional intermediate form in the evolution between apes and us. Anthropologists have been searching for it for years, are you suggesting it can be found within the ranks of Kerry County Council  .

I really, really don't understand how councils are missing this opportunity, now more than never they should start thinking on it as I don't see the mases jumping on a plane to go abroad any time soon. Staycations will boom for sure in the next year or two and with that, there'll be more motorhomes for sure.

Maybe some day...

Cheers

The Family that run Kerry, don't have enough parcels of land to open and operate and control enough Airs to cover the County, so until they do, no Councill will jump ahead of them, since they know which side their bread is buttered on, and what colour bag their sandwich arrives in.

When the touring busses of yanks etc. stay dried up for the next few years perhaps Kerry might reevaluate the benifits from touring motorhomes of Europeans atc.
