Just casually looking at the Stena France sailings next year (flexi tickets, nothing to lose!) .....we usually go in September each year, but June doesn't seem that much more expensive. Given the choice, which of the two months would you more-seasoned travellers go for?
My present wife is hesitant about booking so early, but I'm thinking that prices will only go up as the months go by?

We usually go may /June, have always found weather good and the daylight is at its best, campsites, quiet and in good condition, we have done Sept but found campsites a bit battered and staff grumpy, but weather still good but we're always happy to be away

Early June or late June there's a big difference. In early June lots of places are still closed and popular resort areas can be like ghost towns.
We prefer September as most stuff is still open, the weather can be very pleasant with little chance of a flattening heatwave and the youngsters are back at school/college

That's about the same as the price we found. We were expecting it to be a lot more, having read recent horror stories regarding profiteering. We'll probably choose September, mainly because there'll be more chance of a recovering country.

We usually do two trips, one in early season during the late April, May to June. This is normally our long trip of 7 or 8 weeks. Weather improving as time passes and the ferry prices are at their ‘cheapest’. Bear in mind that many sites in France will not open until the spring break. Being a secular country this does not necessarily coincide with Easter.
Our late season trip is mid August when ferry prices drop, until the end of September. We usually return on the last trip by W. B Yeats before the Epsilon takes over as we prefer the bigger boat and its facilities. A lot of French tourism infrastructure including sites closes on 15th September. A date that seems to be set in stone, even if it is a Friday when logically you might expect them to take the weekend out of it. Perhaps 2021 will be different if they need to make up lost money this year. We almost always visit Quiberon on the way home and by late September lots of shops have closed. Even getting a decent ice cream is difficult.

I have done both , first time i went to France in June/July for 2 weeks it rained almost constantly, Returned in Sept for a week and weather was fine .Now retired i prefer to go September and go for 4-6 weeks at a time mainly because its a bit quieter and most of the French have had their holidays and the weather is also fine. Saying that i booked the Tunnel for September this year ,then moved it to October and have now moved it to beginning of July so with luck that's when i will be going next year.

We normally go to France mid May to mid June, there is a date towards end of June (when schools close) and fares suddenly shoot up ( so we return just before that date).
We have never gone in Sept, at what date do prices come down...late Aug.? Or do they realise many couples tend to travel outside high season.
Campsites start to close down, some end of Sept, or October...though I know many use Aires.

I don’t think many of us go via UK, (unless visiting friends or cutting down on sea crossings) when you see how expensive ferries across Irish Sea, fuel across UK and then the cost of one of the many sailing choices from UK to continent.

All being well regarding Covid next year would you do a Staycation next year, rather than go abroad?

We were also in France ,Germany, Luxembourg in July as we came over to Ireland in September. Wasn't too bad in France but we toured the Mosel the last week and it was unbearable we did have tree cover in Ensch but by lunchtime it was 40degrees so we ended up driving (cab has air con) into Luxembourg and stopping at a hypermarket on the border to get a bit of their aircon .

We normally go early June and find weather very good. We've also started going in September as well and also found weather good. The only thing in September is the darker evenings. Fares from memory are pretty similar considering you would expect September to be a good deal cheaper.

We just booked a flexi fare for June to France with Stena. We are feeling a little more optimistic about normalised travel in 2021. And if not, well it is flexi and it is no harm to have something to aim for.

It looks like there are no sailings to France from Dublin on Stena at the moment. ??

We always went a couple of times per year but found the june sailing a lot more expensive than the September sailing. Priced June 2021 a few days ago and were shocked by the prices. Since Irish ferries put the new ferry on they hiked their prices.
As for which is best pretty much as above though we like both, late September into October dropping down to spain is better.

So,, I changed the dates. Going out 29thMay. Back 21st June. €644. That’s more like it. A bit earlier than usual, for us, but sure, it’ll be fine. Booked flexi, so can only hope for the best now

I’m looking to change my June flexifare booking with Stena. Ideally I would just change the dates to 2022, but that is not an option yet. What are the rules around flexifare? I’ve been trawling the FAQs but can’t figure it out.

Can I keep moving the dates back and will the date to pay the balance keep moving back too?
