Motorhome winterisation advice from Fiat

Fiat recommend the following tips:

• Park your motorhome inside in a dry and, if possible, well-ventilated place

• Engage a gear

• Do not leave the handbrake engaged

• Disconnect the negative battery terminal and check the battery charge every three months

• Disconnect the battery using the master switch (disconnector) if your motorhome is equipped with one (Refer to the Owner Handbook for instructions)

• If you do not disconnect the battery from the electrical system, check its charge every thirty days and recharge it if the optical indicator turns dark without the central green area

• Sprinkle talcum powder on the windscreen and rear window wiper rubber blades and lift them off the glass

• Slightly open the windows

• Cover the vehicle with a piece of fabric or perforated plastic sheet

• Do not use compact plastic tarpaulins, which prevent humidity from evaporating from the surface of the vehicle

• Inflate tyres to +0.5 bar above the standard specified pressure and check pressure at intervals

• Do not drain the engine cooling system

Hang on.
I'll just run out and build a garage to take the motorhome and buy a goretex jacket for it too. :fgrin: :fgrin:

No, wait. Mine is a Renault. I'll just leave it outside. LOL.

I asked two Mechanics recently about the "make sure your diesel tank is full" over winter theory. Story goes that condensation will built up in the tank and this will introduce moisture into your injectors or injector rail and wreck them.

The two responses I received where "where did you hear such bo***x?" "so all those diesel cars parked up in yards and not sold yet are all fubarred?"

But don't quote me :)

Hi Ally & all

I think I am going to need 2 x new front tyres by the time our France trip comes round in July. They are Continental, Vanco Camper 215/70 R15 CP tyres.Modernty :'( res quote £125 per tyre, ouch!! Does anyone know any better? also does anyone recommend any where to get a good engine/brakes service for a Fiat Swift sundance, probably want a service before France also (15,000 miles on the clock) probably another ouch! ouch!

John :'( :ninja:

There is the view that van tyres are the same as motorhome tyres. As for service m&e in lisburn do the fiats or try some of the garages used by the white van man. I will be contacting Renault trucks at mallusk about a belt change on mine, but would use J&F Trucks at mallusk for the oil and filters as they do a lot of our commercial vehicles in work.

Yep everyone has different views on this, but I will be using van tyres instead of camper when the need for new tyres arises.

There is meant to be a difference in the walls of the tyre, camper will have a stronger wall as it is sitting in the same place for longer. Maybe more reasons.

You pay your money and you takes your chance :D

Spoke to modern tyres about this and they said that there is no difference except to the possible tread pattern, they are all 8 ply I think

Personally I wouldn,t use Vanco tyres as they are a very hard compound tyre and a lot of road noise with them. I was speaking to a fellow Motorhomer on Saturday about tyres and he was telling me he bought 4 new 15" Matador 8ply at £96 each. I am just after speaking to Philip my son- in- law from JB Tyres and they can fit them at that price as well. Hope this helps.

Thanks Willie for that information.
As usual it really does pay to ask around and there is always someone with knowledge. Knowledge saves money. There is a few miles left on my tyres but now I know where to go when I need them.
Cheers,
John

I believe Michelin CP Agilis Camping tyres are actually 10 ply.
However people might see no reason to spend the extra money.
