Water Tank Says Full

Van is meant to hold 45ltrs of fresh, or so it reads, but if I fill a 25L tank to refill the van, the wee needle reads full after about 25ltrs. Could there be another way to tell if it's really full or just having me on. Thanks.

I would suspect it's "having you on" :) - they are never that accurate and prone to going faulty. A good tank clean might fix it. Can you not open a lid and look in? or is it underneath?

Fill it until it overflows is what I do :/

Probably clean the probes,
Probes work by conductivity between each probe so usually 4 probes spread between empty and full,

If any biofilm has got on them it could be your trouble

I thought as much, aye it's under the van and I'd say she'll take another 20ltrs.

Thanks.

Seriously, fill it until it overflows. The sensors are useless.

I’ve never known anyone with a sensor that works properly

on my van you fill up untill the water flow's out of the overflow breather pipe, then you adjust the gauge to the full mark, if works well to show what is remaining as you use it .

There may be an inspection hole under the habitation floor of the van. Mine has a little insert that I lift out of the floor and a big cap screws off the fresh water tank and I can see when it is nearly full and can even access the drain plug and pump from there.

It reads fine but I know there must be film on the grey tank probs so I just judge it. I would think it would just get dirty again soon enough even if I did clean it. I use the fresh water tank usage to judge what should be in my grey tank at any given time.

The issue i was seeing is that from empty, I'd fill with 25ltrs (van says it'll hold 45ltrs) but with more than 25ltrs put in, water would start coming out of the overflow pipe. If you shut the overflow pipe you can put another 20ltrs in, making it 40-ishltrs

But aye, seems to be 40ish ltrs in and no real problems.

Until someone here says 'DON'T fill it anymore if it's coming out the overflow' ?

Is what you call the overflow actually a valve that allows you to partially drain down to c 25litres for travelling. On my previous van there was a valve to drain down to 50litres and this one has a valve to drain down to 20litres. These are ‘gimmicks’ by the converter to allow them to claim a larger payload by limiting the amount of water while travelling.

It would not be normal to fit a valve to a true overflow.

What happens when you put the 45litres in, how do you know it is then full. What happens if you try to put more than 45litres in?

Well there's a question.

You could well be right, I stopped at just over 40ltrs so I don't know, but I'll try it and see. Thanks.

Make sure you have at least one ‘watcher’ who can stop you filling if anything goes amiss

That's the way if it has an external filler cap and it has been fitted correctly the tank breather pipe is fitted to a vent just under the lid and and when the tank is full the water squirts out of this pipe .
and on our van you then set the gauge to the full mark with a little rheostat
