I was in Carlingford last week, arrived Sunday and place was chockablock with cars, bikes and motor homes. The old shed immediately down from the camper parking area has been refurbished and is in use, as far as I could, mainly by juveniles getting sailing tuition. Hence plenty of cars parked on camper parking area. Likewise the green belt is in active use by cyclists and walkers, so addition car parking happening. Getting a parking spot was hit and miss, but as cars are leaving constantly, so good chance you will get parking at some stage. Later in the evening the cars largely disappeared, so late arrival might be the best way to deal with the ‘crush’. Surprisingly, Monday and Tuesday was also fairly busy with cars etc.

Arrived in carlingford midday yesterday, only 6 vans last night

We were on the pier a couple of weeks ago. Around 5 pm a Garda sergeant came along and asked us to move off the pier. We suggested moving onto the carpark at the activity centre, he said that was fine by him, so long as the owners didn't mind. They didn't. We went for a couple of drinks in the village and when we got back, there were four other vans parked up on the pier, where they stayed until the next day. I wonder if the guard knew the late comers or was he only wanting to be seen to be doing his civic duty. Just saying!!

Totally agree. We are always asking for councils etc. to provide us with reasonably priced overnight parking facilities so when we have them we should use them. That my take on it.

Wouldn’t miss the marina they have been very good to us in the past letting me use there workshop and tools have went out of there way to help get my van home when it broke down offered to take us to newry for a taxi to save us money if stuck we can use electric hookup free of charge in an emergency my no one spot every time and all for €10

I remember goin to carlingford with a certain group of people we had a great time .big walk on saturday morning
I opted out cause was hung over.so off they went for the walk to o meath all goin good .got as far as the 1st pub in o meath amd that was it in the bar most of the day .ps they said they walked back but the taxis dropped them back dogs anol lol .great craic.

I remember a different meet, seeing two Ladies getting out of a taxi, followed 20 minutes later by two very bedraggled men and two dogs, in the pissings of rain, all looking totally miserable and feeling sorry for themselves

I have anxiety about parking in the marina. The last time I was there I had to stretch out of the van to put the token in and by the time I got ready to drive thru the barrier came down I had to reverse back down and ask for another token think the man thought I was a bit of a moron. I just don't think I would be able to do it with this new campervan and have not been back to marina since. Though apart from that it was grand.

Yes I was going to say a LHD like mine would be good craic on your own. My first time ever driving a Motorhome was on my own and I had to go through the toll at Drogheda. Much easier when there is a human rather than just a motorhome. I’m sure on tolls they see lhd lorries all the time so the driver has to shuffle across. If I had a passenger I would have hem hope out and put the token in at Carlingford.

Came down to Carlingford yesterday. Weather is beautiful loads of campervan and cars in Marina but it doesn't feel overly busy.
Was going to leave today but thinking about my anxieties with the barrier...maybe I should stay a little while longer

Then it's just a matter of popping in the token and hopping back in the drivers seat, I'm usually ready to drive off before the barrier has finished lifting. It took me a while to figure what to do after getting caught in a few places.

Oops I did it again!
Leaving this morning and the barrier went down even before I had the handbrake off and there was a car behind me. I put my head down on the steering wheel and wondered would crying help. A woman driving in got out of her car and said to me get ready to go and she popped a token in for me I was revving the engine and away I went shouting thanks so much.
Good Samaritans pop up everywhere
The Marina is a great place but I can't cope with the barrier at all so can't see me going back. Unless I have someone with me to get me out and that is not likely. It is a pity as it is a grand place
