96 Ducato Oil Topup

 ·

Checked the oil before setting off today, it’s getting close to the min mark so I should topup. Never did it before, how much should I top up by? Was going to get a litre and pour it in what I assume is the oil filler:

Was serviced last October so was last filled then.

Any guidance appreciated!

I thinks it's usually a litre to top from minimum to maimum. Just keep dipping it. That's not your oil filter, that's the oil filler.

Thanks Ally
From surfing looks like oil I need is 10W40.
I opened that cap and saw some mechanical gubbins in there, so wasn’t sure if it was the filling point.
I’ve heard putting too much oil In is not good, I’ll do as you say, get a litre and top up in small amounts and dip after each.

If your oil is low it might have been a while since it was changed. Might be worth an oil and filter change

My 99 Ducato take semi synthetic. I can check the numbers on the front as the local aimuro supplies recommended this going by the registration. Mine used to lose oil due to a corroded sump. I got a replacement cheap enough online and it was not hard for the mechanic to replace. Chew kid there is any oils dripping from the sump drain plug under the engine. You would probably notice an oil stain where it is usually parked if it Ian losing oil that way. ive never had to top it up between services since.

There’s no oil dripping, it’s parked in the same place on the driveway so I’d have seen it.

I wonder is the oil usage high if it’s running cold, the temp gauge usually stays at this:

Our 96 doesn't go above that very much, I thought it needed a new thermostat. :-/

my 1.9td sits at 90 all the time when warmed up climbs slightly when going up a hill, our older one also sat mid way at 90.

Mine is a 2.5td Peugeot but I think that's where it is meant to sit, at 90. I'm going to replace my thermostat to see what happens.

Alex thurston changed the thermostat on his Citroen, turned out to be trickier than expected, and after all that work the temp indicator was still showing low.
I saw comments that if the heater is blowing hot not to worry, mine does so I didn’t go any further.
I have one of those infrared thermometers (the kind they are using to check people’s temps for Covid), now if I only knew where to point it in the engine bay to get a second opinion from the dash temp gauge...

Ttexela (Alex) is a hoot at times in some of his video.
I’d have to say I’ve never saw anyone using a vice for a handtool to remove a broken stud before
