Rotten floor under garage!

Hi everyone,

New member here! I recently bought a 2002 Transit Autosleeper Rienza Everything works fine and it drives great!

I was devastated to find that the bottom layer of ply is rotten when I was cleaning it earlier. You can see from the photo where I've hacked away the rotten wood that it has gone through to the polystyrene insulation material above.

I've checked every other bit of the floor and it's fine. Its just one small area in the corner directly below the garage that's affected.

I don't know what the best option is for repairing it.

Cheers!

Dave

Firstly is that area wet, if so your first concern should be to find the source of the leak and cure it, then ponder how much you need to rip out and replace. All doable if you have the skills. Plenty of videos on YouTube to guide you.
Good luck with it

Thanks for the reply

It doesn't seem particularly wet! I wonder if rain water has at some point got in through the hatch to access the garage area.

I'm not sure if I could treat the surrounding wood and put filler over it for now.

Would probably be best to at replace
the section of floor. Not particularly handy at doing bug DIY jobs so might get some quotes!

I have a similar problem with my Hobby 600, she's in intensive care at the moment getting attended to. I'll be putting a report on here when I get her back, hopefully next week. If you put in your county it might help with suggestions as to where you might take it to get the job done. As said before find the leak before doing repairs. Hope you have a successful outcome, and not too costly.

Get your self or soneone else into the garage, and then power hose the whole rear of the van and roof, starting from the bottom up and around door seals ,joints and see if you can find a wet spot, or where water is coming in .

My Rapido is just back after €2,500 worth of intensive surgery to repair water ingress damage, I feel your pain.
The single most important thing is to get a competent expert to assess the extent of the damage and in particular the source of the water ingress. It's a waste of time and money replacing rot without fixing the cause.
I would certainly recommend the company which did mine, I'm in Cork where are you.
