Videos of Leisure battery setup

Hello all,

We took our first drive in the camper yesterday. My wife and our 2 kids joined my mum and dad for a day of cruising around Wexford.

Have a few things to work on....firstly the smell of exhaust fumes inside the camper while driving. I found a split in a diesel pipe under the bonnet and have replaced that this morning. If it’s not that...exhaust fumes are fairly strong outside the camper...might be just drawing air through bulkhead or the heater exhaust vent which is downwind of the side exit exhaust pipe?

Anyway...the point of my post...I took a couple of videos of the leisure battery and associated wiring. Can anyone help me with any thoughts on what the various parts and wires are doing?

Videos and a couple of photos uploaded here, as they were too big to upload to the forum post: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/eob…wE4Da?dl=0

Regards,

Bernard Concannon

Thanks Panda! I will keep that in mind in future. That box looks fairly knackered >_<

Does the van have a cvrt cert ,it just seems to have problems that wouldn't pass the test , exhaust fumes shouldn't be coming into the van

It does, and a recent one too! 8-) From what would be considered locally as a fussy and well respected test centre. The smell from the exhaust is only noticeable when driving, and more pronounced under load, e.g. accelerating up a hill. I replaced a hose from the fuel filter yesterday, and plugged up two empty bolt holes in the air intake funnel and it seems to have sorted it. I think the smell from a small diesel leak under the bonnet was then being drawn in air through the two holes. I'll monitor it.

Are you smelling warm diesel fumes or exhaust fumes. Subtly different

You should probably give it a full service so you know all the oil and filters are as they should be and check the exhaust system

I'm not sure I'm enough of a fume connoisseur to tell the difference!!! I originally thought it was exhaust fumes, but when i found the split in a rubber fuel hose and saw the drips under it I optimistically hoped that the smell was that diesel get warmed up and burning off.

Does anyone know if the relay that's mounted beside the leisure battery in the video is likely to be a split-charge relay?
