New member introduction

 ·
Posted: 28.11.2012  ·  #1
Thought I would introduce myself. We have owned our motorhome (Damon Daybreak 3270) for 12 months now and have loved the freedom it has given us (Dispite the weather). I am a retired fire officer and live in Manchester with my wife and 12 year old twin sons. Most of my spare time is taken up at my local Judo club or going away in our RV.

I am currently trying to track down a vintage American bus (1953 Flxible Clipper) to restore which may be somewhere in Ulster but have had no luck :(

I'm looking forward to spending time visiting Ireland next year.

Not sure if you have tried, but it might be worthwhile contacting the AOVC they might be able to help.

1947 Flxible RV

 ·

I've sort of given up on finding the vintage Flxible RV that has been abandoned (just a guess) in Northern Ireland and have now found one in the high desert area of California (twentynine Palms). It's been stood for over 25 years but due to the dry climate, has very little rust at all. It's a non runner but does have the makings of a very nice project.

Not sure if I can attach images to posts but I'll keep you guys informed of progress.

I have started a facebook page as a guy in the USA is going through a similar project and it was the only way to get access to the details on his page (might borrow a few ideas :D )

Interesting project Kerry. That'd be a cool vehicle to see cruising around on this side of the pond!

Best of luck with it!

I linked to a few photos from your FB page. 8-)

The Flxible has had a couple of test runs and each time a new problem has come up. It's currently having the clutch rebuilt and front axle sorted. Once these jobs are complete, the interior will be stripped and the long and expensive job of building a new one :'(

I'll start a new thread under the RV section and keep you guys up to date with the restoration there!!

I can't wait to start following your restoration thread Kerry!

What kind of time line do you predict for the resto? Are you going to do it yourself?

I've sen your CAD rendering on FB and it looks excellent.

Best of luck with it!!

And when you're done.. I hope you decide to come over here to Ireland with it. I'd love to see it in person... Perhaps a special MHcraic gathering could be arranged.... :-)

Hi Kevin. All the restoration will be done in the USA. There are no spare parts over here so shipping anything would double the cost of the restoration. I hope to get the project completed within 2 years and this is very much down to finances.

Of course I'll bring the finished Flxible over to Ireland, I'm sure it will get a good response

I've asked the restoration shop to post a video on youtube of the Flxible taking it's test run. I'll put the link on here when it gets done.
