Chain saw to cut the plastic off?

Unfortunatly you are not far off the mark ,the cover is held on by 2 locking rivets that look like they"ll have to be broken off (they"re hard plastic } or drilled out ,just so I can check wiring ,voltages etc  Im not finding parts easy to get either

Or try gently lifting it while herself switches it on. Might just be stiff from lack of use

There's nothing really to see David just 2 plastic rivet heads,I think I'll drill them out and replace them with small bolts

Long shot but check something is not loose. I had an issue with our teleco which wouldn't lift the dish. Turned out the nuts on the shaft driven by the motor were spinning. Motor was fine but no dish movement.....

I tried that and nothing,it worked several times the day before

@voyager I took the dish and lnb arm off and still only slight movement, to get at the rest of the mechanism I have to get the motor/rotor cover off

I’m not familiar with your type of dish Dave. Mine is driven by a belt, if yours is the same it could be the belt gone. You may just go for it I think and get into it

Can’t miss an opportunity David.
If you can get at the motor Dave and measure the length, the dia of the body and the shaft length/dia We may be able to supply one. Used to fix the older merc central locking when the motors packed in..... they were pneumatic but the motors failed, motors were available for a tenner when merc were charging £300 for a complete module.
Getting at it seems to be the issue though.

This is a drawing of the motor, all I could find , I think the chances of getting parts at the moment are slim ,it's an Italian company, Donaghys and Cara mhs are the agents here but they're closed

It will lift the dish up a few inches, then stop, same every time I try, even with the dish and lnb arm off,I'm a bit reluctant to proceed at the moment because of the problem of getting parts

Still sending stuff should be no problem,

Id have no problem investigating further, its not as though you are going any further that inch at the moment anyway,

Get er ripped and see what ya need 😂

I’m nearly sure it will be an electric window motor Martin.... mounting holes/brackets are very ‘bosch’ looking.

There's a look at the motor on mid right,it seems to be driving 2 toothed wheels, they may be out of sync or need lubrication 🤞

Possibly might have stripped the cogs

If the cogs are stripped the motor may still run with no movement of the mast.
If the motor starts and then stops there may be something jamed in the cogs ( broken tooth ) if that is the case continuing to try it against a jam will burn out the motor.
Can you hear or feel it running.?

The motor stops so I think it's a jam , the immediate problem is getting the cover off without doing too much damage and in a way I can get it back on again

Can you replace the plastic rivets with aluminium rivets Dave? Aluminium rivets are very easy got but make sure they wont affect the operation of the dish,

Can you take a photo Dave?

Good idea on the rivet's John, a photo wouldn't be helpful as you'd really see nothing of help just a plastic cover with 2 rivet heads

Well if that’s the only way in, without photos, there is no way to assess, but I’m sure you’re right, then drill them out and see what the craic is. I can’t see any problem puta couple of bolts back in, or rivets, if you think the plastic won’t crack. Personified go with a couple of bolts. But can you get nuts on to the bolts????

The 2 plastic dots on front and back, and the cover has to rotate
Just realized you can't see back one but it's the same 😁

Is there no way to have a look in from the cable entry cover. If the top rotates and the base stays put, I’d be a bit dubious about drilling out those points. I’d want more information first. I could imagine one big centre but, not unlike a swivel chair, holding the entire thing onto the base. Those look very small to be holding the entire dish on. But I’m only guessing.

Got one rivet out intact

This is what the inside looks like , I found no debris and the cog wheels seem intact

Top marks to the Bosch guessers :D

The micro switch ,if I take the leads off and put a meter on them I get 5v , if connect them back again and put the meter on them I get 0v ,no difference when I press the micro switch manually ,am now starting to get a bit out of my depth with it

They are limit switches. Could be stuck. Try running it when you are up at it to see what happens. Get herself to do it

You could check the limit switches with your meter set to continuity/ohms. They should make/ break as you operate the switch lever. My electric step used to stop closing if you slammed the habitation door as it was closing. A drop of WD 40 sorted it

They are probably push to break so there should be continuity in their normal state and this should break, /open circuit when the limit is reached, ie when the lever depresses the micro switch

I have disconnected the wires going into switch , put the meter across them ,5v , reconnect to switch , reading across the terminals 0v don't know where the 5v went to
Why an ohms reading I thought that was just a resistance reading
